Very Lucky (Long) I am the tool man
I am very lucky. I had a cut out and installed it myself. Should have had it welded, but I learned my lesson. Well, the cut out worked free and the exhaust dropped down and rattled and shook and dragged. So I fix it, at least I think I do. I go get some food with my buddy and it comes off in a big way. It drags home over speed humps and I am frazzled. I tend to OCD and work has been hectic. I get home and it is off in a even bigger way and dragging. So I go let me just pop the muffler off and then yank the remaining y-pipe and I will fix it over the weekend.
Sounds reasonable and this is where the folly of my way begins. I loosen the bolts and think o’ a few hammer taps and it will be free. Ya. Me swinging a hammer is a dangerous concept on my car… Well to speed up the story I trash my muffler the thing has a clamp and tack welds which I find out after I mash the I-pipe and bend everything to crap in frustration and haste. So from the cat back is trashed. Well, I am telling this to my dad figuring he would get a kick out of my mistakes. Stuff like this always happens when John and I work on cars especially on those that are supposedly “simple” jobs.
Well he goes what do you need to replace, I go I wasted the I-pipe and muffler. He asks me to call AutoZone and Discount but, they do not carry those, SLP is over priced and GM well it is GM Pricing (went to gmpartsdirect.com); so he calls me back again and says Jegs is sending you part number 389-17133. It is the cheapest way to fix it and just sell the cutout. So, I just want to say how lucky and grateful I am and if you need a cut out (25.00) email me kmakb@ocps.net. It is in great shape.
