UCF Mechanical Engineering
UCF Mechanical Engineering
I just attended orientation which was pretty much useless in my opinion. I'm looking at Mechanical Engineering and was looking for opinions from people who are in the program or in the college of Engineering at all. Anything you have to offer is appreciated. Thanks!
I'm not in the mechanical engineering program, but I am in the civil engineering program. I have had nothing but good experiences from the college of engineering. UCF happens to have an excellent engineering program. Most of the professors that I've had speak english very well (with the exception of one, whom I could barely understand) and most, not all, genuinely care that you learn the material. The only advise I can give is to stay on top of the classes you are supposed to be taking and when you are supposed to be taking them. If you're not careful you might get left behind (unlikely since mechanical students have to meet w/an advisor every semester). Good luck.
one of my ME friends says to pick something similar to ME until you get about 2 years into college then switch over to ME, because they make you get approval for every little class you want to take which takes forever and he lost classes he wanted to take bcause of it.
Thanks guys! I'm already behind the curve because I'm a transfer student and I unfortunately didn't take my Calc & Physics series before I finished my AA. So I'm a junior taking freshman classes
. I kind of like the idea of seeing an advisor each semester as they should ensure you stay on track, but during orientation we met with the advisor and it wasn't very helpful. Basically he said to scratch off the classes we had taken off the flow chart and sign up for the others available
. I guess if the advisor cares then he'll keep you on track, if not then its up to me. But its not very difficult to read the "flow chart" and keep track of things. The only problem I had was GETTING the classes I need at a decent time. Man, those schedules are ROUGH!!

The main thing to be aware of is that not all classes are offered every semester. Some are ONLY offered in the fall and some are ONLY offered in the spring. Make sure you know which ones these are or you'll be even further behind.
I know all about the schedules being rough. Wait until your last three semesters when there is only ONE section of the class you need to take. So you either take it or you don't. I just signed up for my last semester of classes and I will be on campus all day on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but I don't have anything Mon, Wed, or Friday.
