I'd be down...but to get any money out of SGA, you have to go before them and present your case as to why your club deserves their support. What kind of stuff would this car club do? Anyways, count me in if it ever gets off the ground, and I'm sure my dad would come out too (went back to school to get his doctorate & he's got a sweet SS). Try to organize this soon if you're going to, this way we can drive in the homecoming parade...that'd be sweet.

No, its true...a good percentage of senate is composed of Greek people, and they are biased as to what they support just like anybody else would be. I am in a fraternity (not all that active anymore) and I know for a fact that being a part of SGA is extremly easy. Usually there a bunch of leftover seats on senate around election time, so pretty much anybody who wants to be a part of it can (as long as you're in the school that those seats are delegated to). Thats where a lot of greek people come in, they fill up those seats so they can help support their organizations. I don't think its exactly "right", but if nobody else shows enough ambition to be on senate themselves, they can't really complain about how things are being run....just my .02. Back to the main topic though, one of my good friends was in charge of allocating money to all the clubs on campus 2 years ago. (I think his budet was like $400,000 or something like that. He had no problem giving out money, but he would laugh in people's faces when they came before and him asked for money for a club that wasn't really planned out and structured. So if this really were to take off, a serious game plan would be needed (i.e. events, what we plan on giving back to the school, etc...) before it is brought before SGA.

This has been brought up many times before. Many of us have different schedules and having all of us meet at one time (i.e. after school) would be impossible.

I STILL think we should have an organized park like twice a month to make our presence known because many of us are on campus during the day. This park would have to take place in the morning, but I still think it's a good idea. Maybe have a track night too.

I went to the trouble of getting all the paperwork last year. I can do it again. We will need a constitution, treasurer, president, all that good stuff. Just a few busywork things. Shall we try again?

Serioulsy I am up for it I am willing to help out and everything. Wasn't the plan to be American RWD? (Stangs, trucks, Vettes, old muslcecars)

What can we convince the school that we can contribute? Does SAE contribute anything?

Would entering competitions help? Maybe Bracket racing? I am pretty good in my car, I made it to the last 12 at SLP day and the guy that won with the green z28, goes to UCF he has been in some of my classes before(school of Business)

SO we need a constitution?

I on this day september 24th, in the year of our lord two thousand and three, of sound mind, hearby instate these rules and regulations to be against Rice and all that is Ricey.... blah blah blah.....

type of constitution?

I think we could get together, and seem organized.

As for the parking thing, I think we should say skip in a parking lot, only a few people will see that, I say we drive up in front of the engineering building and park in the grass, and put up a sign. We could all probably keep our cars on campus for a day, and do some homework. We might also be able to get some other people to come out. There are waaay more people with mildly modded lt1s, and ls1s that do not come out to our meets.

Non-greek clubs are learning how they work the system, and soon enough the greeks will be the minority in senate, iam i a club that has no greek representation, but we still manage to pretty much get what we want when we need it(maybe there are some connections, or someone knows the right people), but anyway yea all i can say is if someone wants to get this rolling find somone who is high up in senate and get some help, also i think it'd be better to include all rear wheel drive muscle, because numbers mean alot when you ask senate for money.

You just have to come up with a generic statement like all the other clubs have and apply it to muscle cars. If you look at the mission/vision of all the greek orgs. on campus, their contribution is all the same. "To promote brother/sisterhood, friendship, comm. service, etc.

I think forming a muscle car club is better than just a Camaro/Firebird club simply due to the fact of strenth in numbers. We could find ways to prevent rice from joining.

I know the parking thing probably won't happen, but I thought it would be cool to see a bunch of F-Bodies parked together at a visible place on campus.

I doubt they'll let you park in front of the eng. bldg. If this club were formed before this fall we could have had like 2-3 cars in front of the SU for welcome week all shined up with the hood open, etc. to promote our club.

Yeah, I wanna know too....what exactly would this club do? I know of a bunch of different car clubs where I can just stand around look at eachother's cars just like I looked at them the past 20 other times we met.....what would be different about this one?

I am sure we woudl let people hang out still

As for what the club woudl do?

go to Bracket racing days sat the track...

We can enter autocrosses, I think if we have 5 or more cars we can create are own class to compete with(if we wanted to bompete with jsut each other) or we could jsut compete.

Either way the idea back in the day was, SGA would give out money, this money can be used to pay for trips to and entrance fees to competitions. Like a chess club, would get money to go to a another town, get a hotel, and pay the entrance fees.

Say we could get some entrance fees at the track paid for(that means more money to the car) Sy a bunch of us wnat toe neter in the maxiprix event in Gainesville next month with MSCC might be able to pay for a hotel, or even just the probably $50 entrance fee.

Not jsut that, its alos meeting other people with similar interests and that good stuff, we could sell stuff ot each other, get opinions on things. Jeez just even those meets at Sonics has helped me with a problem with my car that posting on 5 different boards didn't help, and might possibly getting some parts I need for my car.

My girlfriend is in a professional anthropology fraternity, met some cool peopel thorugh it, but they have more money then they know what to do with, they planned a camping trip up in jacksonville(little talbit island) and I think had $500 worth of food, we were eating good on that trip, all free. They had nice banquets all for free, just trying to use up money.

I personally like the idea of any help out on entrance fees, to be honest I enjoy using my car, its not much of a shower, but its been taken to its limits and beyond more times then I would say most f-body owners have.

We could also meet up with the stang guys, get a glimpse of what the dark side is like. Things like that.
