Exclamation Surgery, part II

Here we go again! Hopefully this time it really works and gets rid of my headaches permenantly. I'll copy/paste what I wrote in the Lounge and give you a link if you want to read some of the reply's.

original post:

Well I saw the neurosurgeon about those new MRI's I had done, and they ended up showing something very interesting. It seems that when I lean my head forward all the movement is coming from one disc and the rest are staying straight. It's kinda hard to explain without seeing the MRI, but imagine how your neck is supposed to curve you you lean it forward or back, it's supposed to make a nice arc where each disc moves roughly 4 to 5 degrees. Well instead most of the discs are moving about 2 degrees and one is moving about 40 degrees, which is causing the spinal cord to rub up against the already herniated disc at that level.

So basically I get to have C5 and C6 fused together. This actually won't be that bad since I'll be in the hospital for only one day and it should only take 2 weeks til I'm back to work. That's alot better than the first one where I was in the hospital for 7 days and recovering for over 6 months.

So, I'm really hoping this will help get rid of the headaches. If not then it looks like I just have some kind of permenant neurological damage(most likely from the Chiari Malformation) and will just have to go to pain management for the rest of my life. But it seems that this might be a contributing factor, especially when you consider how much you move your neck around during the day and how much my spinal cord would be rubbing against this herniated disc.

I won't really be online tonight to answer any questions you have, but I will be tomorrow. So if you ask me anything you'll get a reply sometime tomorrow.

Anyway, your prayers and thoughts are greatly appriciated!

Good Luck Mike! I sort of know what you're going through and it isn't nice to have to deal with pain every day. Hopefully this will be the fix that takes away the pain.

We're praying for you and a speedy and complete recovery.

Later ... Larry S.

Sorry to hear that. I've been dealing with this since 1984. I wasn't going to have surgery then but medical science has progressed alot in the last 20 years, I may have it done. Mine is from being hit from behind at a red light by someone traveling at highway speed. Best of luck in your surgery.
