Yeah its bad.

I think they have a ticket of "exhibition of speed" basically saying if you accelerate too fast to show of your car they can give a ticket, and yes a cop can be a **** and kinda throw it out there.

And impound and Jail is true, I have talked to orange county sheriff and we used to talk about when it happened and they arrested people at organized street racing spots.

Someone in my wreckless driving course got in trouble for it. Its at the cops discretion-so even if you aren't racing anyone the cop can give you a ticket it you accelerate really quick (even if nobody is around). The kid in my driving course got a lawyer and got off with a $500 ticket-his friend didn't get a lawyer and spent 2 weeks in jail

15 years ago I would have been appauled at the thought of it.
Now with the street racing accidents and deaths, its about time.
They shouldnt be allowed to keep your car just impound it for a day or two.
Impound fees depend on the towing yard, and usually run $35.00 per day here in Melbourne.
There is a track in Orlando. You dont "need" to street race.

I don't think they're in it to make money, they're in it to save lives.

Imagine if the only penalty for street racing was like a $100 fine and that's it. You'd have so many street races taking place because no one's afraid of losing that kind of money.

If you own a fast car, then you've probably ran someone on the street/highway a few times, I know I have. It's fun, it proves who's got the faster car, but it can be danergous and it's not fair to those who are trying to get from A to B to have to watch out for speeding cars in traffic. The thing that got me to stop hod-rodding was I thought about my car getting crumpled up like a crushed beer can, possibly being paralyzed, killing others, and it can all be avoided.

I know I'm stereotyping here, but it's true. I think most muscle car drivers are the responsible ones if they happen get into a race, but it's those damn ricers who are the irresponsible ones who try to imitate scenes from 2F2F and drive like idiots.

It is still such B.S. that there is no drag strip in south florida.

I used to race on the street ALL the time, I moved to Orlando I keep it to the track 80% of the time now. They really need to get their heads out of there asses down there and build a track somewhere. Its obvious that modifying cars is very popular, ever go to tower shops on a friday night, that is the biggest weekly carshow I have ever seen/heard of. Especially during the summer.

Jeez jsut hte cars down by beach place, the stangs at Fudruckers, there are huge gatherings down there, they need a track BAD.

But the big problem with this law is that it's completely up to the officer's discretion. I can take off from a light at half throttle and hit cruise 5 miles an hour under the speed limit and still go to jail for it.

I can't see how you can say that two cars were racing just because they are faster than most and leave a light in a hurry in first gear. There are too many cops that see every muscle car as a race car with an agressive, dangerous, wreckless driver behind the wheel. Even if you are completely in control of your car and not speeding or driving carelessly, pushing the gas pedal too far can really screw up your life. I see this law as a threat to the entire sports car culture. It is needed. But it goes too far.

Also, as was illustrated above, never go to traffic court without a lawyer unless you're just gonna take driving school. I have proven in 2 cases now that I wasn't guilty of tickets I got. Both times the judge just said blah blah blah. Guilty. With no explanation as to why even when I asked for one. They aren't judges. They're prosecuters. There is no justice there. : off soapbox:

That can be controlled. I can take off from a light as slow as I want, and you can too, it's entirely up to the driver. A co-worker with a Civic got a citation for an improper start. He took off too fast and spun his tires in 2nd. The cop told him in order not to get another ticket like that, he needs to accelerate up to the speed limit with the flow of traffic.

Cops look for things that stand out. If I go through an intersection at 60 MPH and a red car just like mine does the same, the cop's attention will be drawn more to the red car. Perception probably plays a part in if you get pulled over for speeding, and how much of a jerk the cop is/isn't.

I have made that run from ft. lauderdale it sucks, I always seemed to get drilled by traffic. I think its worse drivng form down south to morrosso then from here to morrosso( I drive orlando to ft' lauderdale alot, traffic gets bad once you hit west palm down.

And chuck I won a case without a lawyer once. Of course it was in Palm Bay(my apartment building is bigger then there Courthous). And I showed up early some old guy was unlocking some doors, I asked if he needed a hand and it later turned out to be the judge

P.S. Chuck, I think a fresman at UCF got a SOM SS with t-tops, I have seen him alot around UCF.
