Troopers Crack Down On Speeders
POSTED: 2:16 pm EST December 7, 2004
ORLANDO, Fla. -- State troopers issued nearly 150 citations Tuesday morning in an ongoing effort to make Central Florida's roads safer.
Nine troopers worked as a team starting around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday in a crackdown on traffic violations. Officials said traffic fatalities are up in almost every county in the state; on State Road 50, 15 people have died this year. But trooper said drivers still are not slowing down. They said they caught one driver on Tuesday morning going 78 mph in a 45 mph zone and another going 83 mph in a 55 mph zone.
"The biggest excuse we hear is that they're 'just going with the flow of traffic and it's explained to the person that the speed limit is posted, and that's what they are supposed to be traveling at," said Sgt. Jim Montes. "Just because the person next to you chooses to speed, you should not follow their lead."
Officials said the crackdown would continue through Wednesday with occasional check through the holiday season.

By the way guys, saw a white unmarked Minvan pull over 2-3 people today on the road behind waterford lakes towncenter.
Was Orange county, has lights, in the windows.

Re: SR 50 (colonial drive) swarming with FHP today
There are a few other things you guys need to be aware of. There is a tactic being employed, that a bunch of law enforcement personel are being sent out in unmarked SUVs and other inconspicuous civilian vehicles using self contained hand held radar/laser units, then calling in another actual police vehicle for the stop. They are working in teams with the actual chase vehicles staying hidden until called into action. This really bites because the soccer mom in her SUV may actually be an unmarked FHP.
you'll never see it comming until it's too late. Evidently they are trying to make an impression on the general public that law enforcement is hiding everywhere. Better slow down guys.

Re: SR 50 (colonial drive) swarming with FHP today
I am sick and tired of un marked cars. Unless it is vice or something major I feel it is more beneficaly to see the sirens and lights. It slows people down and keeps thugs in check else where.
This new policy sounds to much like big brother. I rather my taxes pay for marked cars to make their presence felt than nicee SUV's and min vans to catch speeders.
I am also sick how many differnt versions of lights each county has. Why can't we have one light only police can buy so we know it is a real cop not some joker faking it then will kill ya when he pulls you over..

between the orange county convention center and my place on redbug lake road i saw 5 speed traps, almost all of them had cars without the lightbar.

Troopers Crack Down On Speeders . . .
When are they going to crack down on traffic light enforcement? I'm sick of people blocking the intersections and running lights long after they've changed. Why is speeding such a high profile topic and every other traffic rule is just a suggestion?

yeah that one is pissing me off... I can see running a few "pink lights" but this crap where the line turns green and you have to let off the gas and hit the brakes cuz a car is still coming is getting pretty bad.
Other day, I floored it made the guy slam his brakes and get stuck in the intersection blocking traffic. I mean if I don't go till the light is green and I can get out and block you because you ran the light that bad, you are a moron.

Re: SR 50 (colonial drive) swarming with FHP today
I commonly see cops waiting at a light and people still run them. What do the cops do? They wait until everyone is finished running the light before driving on their merry way without so much as a flash of their lights or even a honk of their horn.
