Why does the UCF police need a K-9 Unit.... I understand a drug problem, seems like they could call orange county or something... Do they really need a K-9 unit, when will it be when they get a S.W.A.T. team and a helicopter...

on a lighter note saw a truck with a boot on it, made me laugh

We have a FULL SERVICE Police Dept., so that's probably why they have a K-9 Unit. I would assume they're for unruly people, I think they have different dogs for drug searches.

That's when I would have seen a squirl or armadillo or cat or something run out in the road in front of me and locked 'em up. My neck hurts just thinking about it.

Actually, I am pretty sure the K-9 is more for educational purposes really. When I got into my car accident on University & 417 a couple years back the cop who is in charge of the K-9 for UCF was there and he wtinessed the whole thing. The guy who I ended up hitting (oil from a previous accident left on the road coming off the 417 off ramp) started hotting and hollering that I was driving like a maniac "hot rodding" my car and that I was doing at least 80. Anyways, the cop (off duty at the time) saw the whole thing and stayed in my defense to tell the real story to the state trooper who showed up a little later. I was talking with the off duty cop the whole time, he saw the UCF decal on my car and was telling me how he also teaches a class at UCF and the K-9 is mainly used for educational purposes on campus but he still has the same abilities as any normal police dog. He even had the dog with him at the time, and he introduced me to it....it was a very nice dog, but im sure it could tear somebody up if it wanted to.

Ok that makes me feel at least that some of my money is not being wasted. Makes since don't we have a decent criminal justice program.
