I"ll be competing too. 10to1 odds says it'll be a 3-light tree considering the fact that most people will be out there just to have fun and aren't necessarily "drag racers"

Does anyone know of any serious competition?

Liek peopel who do it every weekend? Honestly I am not sure if any 3rd or 4th gen f-bbody guys really do it, and don't really expect the vette guys doing it either.

and I still need a helmet

I'm going.. I think I'm just going to WalMart or Sports Authority and just buying a cheap BMX bicycle helmet to use. MY car doesn't run fast enough to need an expensive helmet.

BTW I'm most likely going out wednesday to see if i can at least get closer to consistant. I also just got a cut-out to.. I hope it helps alittle..

I do believe that according to the rules it has to be a Snell-approved helmet w/ a certification less than 2 years old.

If you want consistency make sure you've got great traction, your tranny is holding up well, install an electric waterpump along w/ a switch that activates the pump and fans while the car is in the staging lanes. Other than that, move your coil and ESC away from the location the factory has it in and make sure your plugs and wires are nice and youthful. Remember, quite often, unless on a professional level, slower cars are easier to make consistent.

All great suggestions but I've never heard about moving the coil and I'm drawing a blank with the ESC (what is it?) Do you move the coil to a cooler location or iis it for another reason? If for cooling...where would you suggest moving it to? Pics?

Thanks

Oh yea, I'll be there and should be in the lanes. See ya there!

withe the competition, 3.4L will be the slowest course i still ahve to deal with my 5-speed.

OuKast, the ESC and coil are riveted together and mounted to the front of the head from the factory. If you've ever replaced a coil while the car has been running, or even 30 minutes later, you'll understand the heatsoak these go through. Well, over the summer, I had some codes that suggested that either the opti, coil, or esc had a problem, but it only started popping up the code and running bad after it got hot, so I took these out to have a look at them. While I was diagnosing the problem, I let the car run, w/ these sitting off to the side, and the problem went away. Right after I reinstalled them, it was back. I recalled back to my 3rd gen days that on the older 3rd gen the coils would get heat-soaked and you'd lose power. To make a long story medium-length, after experamenting, it turned out the ESC was starting to fail, but upon installing the new one and monitoring my timing, idle and 02 readings, it appeared that moving the ESC away from the heat cleaned up the idle "chop" that a lot of people complain about not being able to get rid of. There was a large thread, do a search, over the summer, where about 10 other people posted having tried it and having successful results. It saved one guy from replacing his Opti. I don't have pics but mine is now located right next to the fuse box under the hood.
