lol it was gone that long just to replace spark plugs? at least you got to drive the "slower" SS around for awhile.

Believe it or not...I got so tired of that car after only a week. I'm just glad to have my baby back in top form. Damn, I need to wash her today though.

Here's a pic of the culprit...only problem is that all 8 of them looked like that. The orange color is from the Octane Boost I added to help the problem...clearly it didn't. But take a look, there is hardly any electrode left on there.

Those stock GM platnum plugs are junk. With only 26K miles, mine looked similar to that. The gaps were all over the place, 3 of them were missing the platnum discs, and most of them were stained with an orange residue like yours. I switched to NGK TR55's and never looked back. Glad to hear you have your car back and it was only a minor problem.

Re: She's Back!!!

I know, I know... holy old post batman.

In all seriousness... Dan - what exactly was your car doing before you found out it was the spark plugs? I'm having a problem with my car, but only in 1st gear. It acts like it misfires/stumbles really bad, then it shifts into 2nd and runs fine. Same with WOT blasts in 3rd & OD.

I am planning on picking up a new set of NGK TR55's tomorrow. I pulled a plug a few weeks ago and it lookd fairly decent. But my problem wasn't nearly as bad, and intermittent at that time. Now it runs like shee-ot.

Re: She's Back!!!

Wow, would have never thought I would have seen this post again...

Anyhow, the motor would ping/knock real bad under the slightest bit of load. Imagine the sound it makes when you get a bad batch of gas, then multilply that by about 20, and thats the sound it would make. The computer pulled a whole bunch of timing, and the car ran like garbage...felt like it was missing at least 100 horsepower.

Hope that might help.

Re: She's Back!!!

Hrmm... mine isn't like that, it blows the tires off while it's stumbling, etc. I have fears that it's the fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, or both. Previously I thought it was the 1-2 SAP, but that was debunked this past Saturday. My transmission is perfectly healthy, good news, but at the same time bad news.

Thanks for the info Dan.

Re: She's Back!!!

The other thing... part throttle the car drives great. It pulls fine in all of the other gears too. I'm completly stumped right now.

MSD 8.5mm's, approx 17K miles on them. They still look brand new.
