That stuff about the Z28's being in "performance mode" all the time is bull. They are in regular mode all the time, which means soft shifts and low MPH upshifts at all but full, or near full throttle. The performance shift mod essentially give you the same button the the TransAms have, and use the factory GM program that is already in the PCM. All you have to do is activate it. It costs all of 5 or six dollars in radio shack parts to do it, and it's really fun. It only took me 20 minutes to do and works better than that B&M thing.
Here's what you need:
A push button MOMENTARY switch from radio shack. It must be a momentary switch or this will not work. It cost me about 1.99 for the switch, a red push button.
You need a "12V LED with a built in resistor". Part #276-270 Radio shack sells these for about $1.00. They come in red, green, or amber, one to a pack. Make sure it is this one or you will burn it out instantly or not work at all.
You need some 18 Gauge wire, and some crimp caps to crimp the wires, or you can solder and tape if you want.
Spade connectors (opt.)
Now here's what you gotta do. Remove the passendger side kick panel to get access to the PCM wiring.
Solder some wire onto the leads of the LED and Momentary switch, about five feet each (you can always cut later). You have to find a place to mount the switch. I use the cigar lighter bezel.
Disconnect the the negetive battery cable.
Now look for two wire harnesses that have plastic connectors and are labeled with letters, coming from the PCM. One is white C220 and one is blue C230.
Find the blue connector and cut the wire labeled A on the connector. Strip it and Solder or crimp this wire to one of the leads on the Momentary switch. Run the other wire to a ground. (I used the black wire that connects to the back of the cigarette lighter connector on the back of the lighter.)
Now find the wire labeled H on the white connector and cut and crimp this one to the negetive side of the LED. (black wire) It must go this way as current only flow one way through an LED. The positive wire goes to an ACC controled source, (only on when the car is on) If you open up your fuse panel there is a terminal in there labeled ACC, that is the best place, since it was put there by the factory. Crimp a spade connector on the wire and connect it to this little square terminal.
Hide the wires and reconnect the battery.
Press the button with the car running and the LED will light up telling you it is on. Now go for a drive. The shifts will rip your neck off at part throttle and the car will stay in gear longer for more power. This is especially true with the 3-4 shift. It will remain in three for a lot longer than usual such as when merging on the expressway. Have fun. I love it.

Wow, now you can blow your tranny for just 1.99. Come on folks I am selling these at blowout prices. So you can spin your tires while shifting at half throttle, no point in that. If you want to firm up shifts get a shift kit and tranny cooler, otherwise say goodbye to transmission .
I think once in a while is alright to increase the line pressure but if you have a firm shift all the time the valve body will take a dump. Shift kit and trans cooler is the way to go.... just my .02 cents
