question about cable tv and cable internet
question about cable tv and cable internet
just moved to a new place and it has no cable, already plugged a TV into the wall to test and we didn't win the cable lotto
if we order roadrunner, do you get basic cable for free or do they block it? we don't currently need to order cable internet, but if we get basic cable with it then we'll get it.

Re: question about cable tv and cable internet
They're seperate. Maybe apartments are different (assuming you're in an apartment). You supposedly get a discount when you get both together but it's still like $100 a month.
Re: question about cable tv and cable internet
For like $100 and you get digital cable(like every channel) then you get some movie channels.
Me and my girl I think we pay $73 for RR and digitial cable, no movie channels except for HBO, got tired of paying money to see movies I could have seen for free if I wasn't sitting at home watching TV

Re: question about cable tv and cable internet
i have the cable/internet package from brighthouse. i'm pretty sure its roadrunner. we pay approx $115 for digital cable and dvr. its great, we have all the movie channels, movies on demand, and we can record 50 hours worth of shows onto the box. i'm not sure how many people you're living w/ but i'm now spliting it w/ 3 other people now.
Re: question about cable tv and cable internet
As others mentioned, video cable isn't included in the Roadrunner package, but you can add it on for a reduced rate.
It may depend upon how the cable is run between the walljacks and the cable box outside. If they're home runs, your signal level will be better on each drop but the technician (or at least someone with the correct vendor key
) will need to connect those specific drops.
I live in an apartment. I heard you can use a 75-ohm splitter with no more than +2.5dB attenuation to access basic cable over the roadrunner service at most installations. Both feeds come across the same physical layer, just different frequencies.
The tech's I've spoke to indicated it doesn't get blocked at the box, but at the central node and at that point in time they didn't have it implemented.

Re: question about cable tv and cable internet
We just had our Roadrunner transferred after a move and I had a nice long chat with the tech while he rewired everything. According to him, the only thing that blocks cable service is a "trap" in the line run to your house. If you have internet, then just climb up to the pole, remove the shiny metal cylinder in the middle of the line, reconnect the two loose ends with a connector, and voila! free cable. Of course, you'll only pick up the channels that don't require the decoder box. At least until the man with the leakage detector drives by and then you get a phone call from BrightHouse... Not that I would know about that sort of thing...

Just pay for it, it's not that much, especially when splitting it between people.
