NON Z Tundra Help

50K Miles 4.7 V8 and the ses light comes on my buddies Tunda. We take it to Autzone to get it scanned and it says rear O2 sensors. They clear the CPU just to make sure and he heads home. On the way home his SES light comes back. He goes back to Autozone and wants to buy new rear O2 and all they have are universal bosch sensors. Not bad IMO, but the guy behind the counter says their scanner is crap and he should take it to a better place to get scanned so he does not waste 100 bucks on two O2 sensors. Now he is torn, should he do the O2 or will he do it and it still throw the code.. He just does not want to waste the cash.

Opinions and feed back...

hmm... I can see the scanner not picking anything up but giving a false code?

Maybe try another autozone, doesn't discount scan cars now too?

I have an 02 sensor socket somewhere I think if you need it, aren't all o2s the same size?

I don't see why an 02 sensor would go so bad at that low of miles. Did he gut the cats on his truck? This is the only reason I can see for it. Have him remove the stockers and reinstall them, maybe they just got loose. There shouldn't be any problems, other than just the light. If he wants, what I would do, is for the same price buy the 02 simulators, and get rid of the cats, better fuel economy and maybe a little more power.
