New Streetracing Law !!!

Ok if you haven't heard there's this new streetraicng law out for us young guns and thoughs with slightly heavy foots. But the punishments are a bit outrageous. So me and some of the guys over a fuelslut.com are putting together a petition to stop the captitol madeness using a 50 yearold past time as a reason for quick bust. So if anyone is interested in helping out or wants to know just what the new law is just click the link below.

A performance car club putting together a petition against a street racing law?

What do you think the person who gets that petition is going to think when they see that?

The track is only $20 and if you wreck there you won't have to worry about being sued or taking many other's lives.

Really.

Where've you been? It's not a new law. It's been in effect for over a year. If you race on the street, it's a criminal offense. You can get jailtime for it.

The bad part about it is that it's completely a judgement call for the officers to decide if you were racing. Unfortunately, you won't get any sympathy from legislators on this one. How many old farts driving Cadillacs do you think are actually interested in car stuff? They make the laws. It's stereotypical for sure that any of us in faster muscle cars are suspects of street racing before we ever hit the gas. I'm always observant of who's next to me at street lights. If I'm in a hurry and leave a light at 2/3 throttle and the stupid little ricer next to me chirps his right tire and buzzes his fart pipe all the way to 8,000 RPMs trying to keep up... we were racing in a cop's eyes. You don't even have to exceed the speed limit. There is no defined guideline that explains what street racing is for this law.

I wish you the best of luck with your petition but I'm not the least bit optomistic about the result. Don't a bunch of you fuelslut guys go out and street race in the wee hours of the morning? Hmmm and you want to make it not so illegal? Hmmm.

You should probably put the info in a public folder too so that the general public has access to it.

I know at age 16 you've got yourself some mad driving skilz and you can control any situation. Good luck with the petition but the fact is you can't control what ever environment you choose to street race in no matter how remote it seems. Racing legally is so easy that there is no reason to take it to the street so keep it on the track and don't worry about street racing laws.

well I got arrested because of that new street racing law. Guys, dont do it on the street. It just aint worth it. Go to the track and drive it like you stole it, but drive like grandma on the street. They will try to bust you for even looking like you will race

lol Rick and Josh

I'm not registered at that forum, so I'll just add my input here.
While I do agree that its not the smartest thing to do int he street, I dissagree with the harshness of the penalties. Mainly one the part that its ALL up to the officer, that there is now a fine line between being in a hurry and racing. And like was stated above, you can get busted if the person next to you is trying to race and your next to him, then that puts you right there with them in the cops eyes. Its sad to see that racing is just as bad if not worse then getting a DUI in the law books.

Good luck with the petittion, and be sure to use the best wording on it. Make sure its proffesional, and not just a large group of people who dissagree.

I think we all saw what you were saying and still do. This is probably one of those "violant agreements". lol

The reality of the issue though, is that the only people who are gonna care about reducing the penalties are people who are a target for getting busted while street racing. Again, I'll say (since you didn't seem to hear what we were saying) put your page in a public folder so others can see it. If it is in fact worded the way it needs to be you may get some more support. I'm not a big fan of Fuelslut and am NOT gonna register to be a part of your community. But I may add a name to the list if I agree with what it says.

this is not about making racing legal. ITs the first degree felony, and the florida seizure laws, that opens a loophole for power hungry, or money hungry departments to cause problems, with average joes.

my problem with this, is not the racing part, but the fact its 100% officers opinion of the situation, 10 seconds or less, no proof, and your property can be seized, and auctioned off, before conviction, under this law. All under officers point of view.

Even bringing up the racing part of the law, ruins your case. First, admit racing should be illegial, as that will get them on your side, to at least read it.

you need to just defend your rights, to unreasonable search and seizure. Thats how this could possible get stopped, not by racers saying its not fair. But for average joe, in an expensive sports car, who all of a sudden, can be charged for "racing" and get his viper, ferarri, lambo, vette, taken away before trial. "innocent until proven guilty.. or is this not the case anymore?"
