NEED an old school v8 chevy distributor.. non HEI. (Orlando area)

Hey I need some help... me and my buddy need a regular old school V8 chevy distrubutor to fire up his V8 S10 Blazer project. Big cap HEI is too big and wont fit.

Aftermarket would be cool if the price is right. Looking for something inexpensive. Even would consider an OLD points distributor for a temporary unit if someone has one laying around for real cheap. We really want to fire this new motor up and this is the only thing stopping us, kinda ran low on funds if ya know what I mean.

Let me know what you got. (Orlando area only)
Thanks a lot.
Steve

Did you check the junk yards? I know J&B Auto has a 2nd gen camaro with a V8. Not sure if it still has the distributor. Just call around, I'm sure someone has something cheap.

Well.. the problem is that a 74-81 chevy will have an HEI distributor (the big one with coil in the cap) I have one of those here, but it won't clear the s10's firewall. It's a 350 swap into an s10 blazer, so the clearance is the issue. I need something smaller like a points distributor or an aftermarket one..

If we got a points distrubutor or something, it would work for a little while. We want to get this thing fired up quick. He needs somthing cheap. It's the only thing keeping us from cranking it.

Thanks
Steve

an 87+ GM will have the remote mount coil, and should be small enough. but I think they are computer controlled.

I took a sledge hammer to the firewall, and put an HEI in my S-10.

I've got a points distributor if you'll pay shipping, it's just the base & shaft, you'd need a cap & rotor. I just saved it to use as an Oil primer in case I built an engine.

I don't have the distributor. But I do have a B/N MOROSO Corecta cap , never used. This is a reprogrammed cap that has the out put wires in the firing order. Pretty neat seat up. Let me know if you are interested.

Well... we previously beat the firewall some and were able to fit the HEI in there... but the problem is that you have barely any play in it where you can turn it. Even if I could get it working, as soon as the motor moved at "all" it would break the cap. PLUS I think the HEI we have took a dump and doesn't seem to work right. Weak and erratic spark. I know the coil is good. I have played with many HEI's before and this motor will not fire.

The whole HEI idea, just isn't going to work for our application. The major fitment issue is because this is a 2wd s10 blazer and not a pickup. The motor mount points sit over an inch higher than on pickups or 4x4 blazers. We've been fighting this issue the whole way. Nothing went in "easy" Longtube headers in these things suck. It's a 350 chevy with the Holley systemax kit (425HP, alumiunm heads, cam etc...)

The 87+ dist, would "fit" but wont work due to it being a computer controlled dist.

Still looking...
Thanks
Steve

I know about the 1 inch deal I have built a few V8 S10 Blazers. I made mounts that sat the engine back down lower . I put an HEI in every one I had.

i'm guessing you know that the computer controlled (big body) HEI's have a 6 pin module and no vacuum can.

you need a 4 pin HEI module, and a dist with the vacuum can.

I've got at least one 4 pin module & one spare HEI coil and cap that are "supposed to be good" that were replaced during troubleshooting.

lmk, and I can ship all this crap to you if you'll $pring for shippping.

hth?
