Last Chance for a cheap pimpin truck
Last Chance for a cheap pimpin truck
I'm trading it in tomorrow 11/18. I'm only gonna get $17,000 for it. So if anybody want's it for that speek up quick. You can see it here:
http://2002.cz28.com/photo.html
It's a one owner, 2WD 2001 Silverado Ext Cab LT. It has every available option. CD/Cassette, dark gray leather, seat heaters, power everything, OnStar system is there but not activated, 5.3 V8, 342 posi gears, 4 wheel disk brakes, aluminum wheels, Michelin LTX M/S tires that are like new, 55,000 miles and a bug deflector hood protector. It was 32,800 new 2.5 years ago.
Due to current discounts, interest rates and other factors I can have a new truck for a lower payment. Otherwise I wouldn't be selling it. It's definately the Cadillac model.
Last chance.

You're very mistaken. But hey, thanks for the help pal.
According to Edmunds:
Trade Private Sale Retail
$16,207 $18,183 $20,090
And they don't really take into account some of the extra options on the truck.
They're actually giving me $16,000 but they are working the trade value in a way that I don't pay sales tax on $16,000 of the new truck. 6% of $16,000 is $960. So ... I don't care either way. It's gone tomorrow. It's a good truck for the money. You never know when somebody might be about to spend $20,090 on one.

Now step back to the real world. Edmunds said my car was worth$22k private party when I bought it and I got it from Hollar Honda for $16,900. Kelly Blue Book is a more realistic value estimator and it allows you to ad all the options. I have never seen a dealer give more than FAIR KBB trade in value for anything.
I just sold a car that booked out for 6500 using KBB Good as my guide. I only got 5200 for it and that was after running multiple ads over a month and a half.
So like I said, if a dealer is really giving you 17k, take it and run. OK even 16k. That is all I was getting at. BUT make sure they are not inflating the price of the car somehow so they can "show" you that much. I sold cars and played that game for a long time. Just wanted to give you a heads up rather than make you angry. That was not my intent

Ya I just looked at mine.. Edmunds is way off value, but aren't they all though... I paid what mine is currently worth and that is over 1 year ago.
What i would do is take both and aveage it and that would be a more realistic price..

Okay. Sorry for offering it here for more than what KBB says the trade in value is.
Which BTW is a little over $15,000. Somebody will probably pay between 18 and 19 at the dealer's used car lot.
Don't worry about getting me mad. I'm not. And no they're not inflating the cost of the new one. I'm very sure to keep both transactions completely seperate. I won't even discuss what car I'm trading until the new car price is set. I'm getting around $8500 off of MSRP including the $2500 rebate and my GM Card earnings. I've never actually been a car salesman but I know the tricks too. Courtesy Chevy doesn't throw too many at me like every other dealer in Orlando did. But then again this will be the 3rd car I've bought from them and I let them know up front that I'm not gonna listen to BS, take test drives, listen to them tell me about all the things I already know about the car and haggle all day over how low they can get my payments. I had the price of the new one negotiated before I ever walked on the lot. When it got there, they called me. They have to do practically nothing but inspect my old one before putting it on the lot. I wouldn't have accepted a "fair" condition trade value.
*** Edit spelling *** "excepted" jeeze what was I on?

Courtesy is who I worked for. It is best to do the deal without a trade and then throw it in. Courtesy is a little better. They usually give you ACV or actual cash value instead of "showing" you something. Although at a tent sale for Courtesy they offered me 8k for my Mazda which I knew was only worth about 4k to trade. Then when my wife decided she liked another vehicle more, the trade amount all of the sudden became 5K.
It typically does not matter how clean or nice a vehicle is, most dealers stick to rough black book or at most average. That way they cover their a$$ if they cant sell it. It would have to be extraordinary to get clean black book. Clean on your truck is about $16,100 and rough is about $12,200. Typically the only way you get clean is if they allready have a buyer and can turn a quick $1000 or so. Then they have sold 2 cars in a day. Looks good on paper.
I am going to be getting a truck probably in January and figured that if it was a great deal that the additional couple of months would not matter. That is the only reason I was researching it. I really dont need a fully loaded one though, only one to serve as basic transpo so I dont have to rack up miles on the Z. If I want to drive a luxury truck I will just drive the wife's Navigator.

What you do need to consider though, when given a trade value vs. selling privately, is the tax implication. Instead of $10K trade and "I'll sell it for 10,500 and make $500 more" what you've done is cost yourself money, since at a minimum, the net is $10,600 with the FL base 6% - more in some counties with the option.
You're getting 16K for the truck on trade. Not 17, not some magic number othre than that. 16.

It would have to be a convertible or a Z06 though.
