Jet Hot Longtubes are hell!

the passenger side just WONT go in even after lifting the motor a good bit. The header seems to want to go in easier from the bottom rather from the top but seems to get caught on the very last head bolt. I dont know what to do. I cant tow the car anywhere and it just pisses me off that i am having so much trouble. If anyone would like to come help get this header on i am willing to pay 100 bucks...im just out of options at this point.

i just finished my install last week, and i had the exact same problem. gets caught by about 1/2 inch on the last head bolt.

i unbolted the passenger motor mount, put a piece of wood under the oilpan, and jacked up the motor enough to slide the header in (from the bottom). one thing i noticed was that you have to watch the motor mount, and make sure the engine is going up and not the car........i had to use a big screw driver and pry the motor mount arm loose from the mount itself, as they were stuck together and causing the whole car to raise up instead of sliding out of the mount.

be very careful though...........i guess i jacked my motor up too high, and i tweaked something in my shift linkage (t56)....now i cant get my car into 3, 5, 6 gears, and barely into reverse...

i finally got longtubes done and the only place ill be driving it is straight to the transmission shop.

dunno... my hookers went in no problems, didn't jack the engine up, didn't even have to remove oil filter, just the dipstick and the steering linkage.

now the y-pipe is another story... stupid A4 tranny crossmember

i really have no idea what i really broke yet..........i will find out soon. im gonna take off my shifter and see if i notice anything.........if not, then ill take it to the tranny shop.

i used felpro 1406 gaskets......they were $20 from summit, and theyre a lot higher quality.........plus they are easy to put on.........you just loosely attach the header bolts at both ends, then the header gasket slips down on top of them, then you thread the other bolts.

also used stage8 locking header bolts

and i had to lightly sand down the driver side slip-in primary.......it was too tight..........and i used some grease to slide it in.

when i put the alternator back on, i did not use the bracket that attaches to the header bolt, its not necessary.

Offspring, hit SFFBA.net or BADRAP.net and ask around there. SFFBA's closer so you might find local help, but a lot of BADRAP's guys have done JetHots on their own. Some of them can do it in their sleep.

If you want to put the passenger side header in from the bottom (the only real way to do it), you have to have the header almost 100% vertical. Once you get the header standing straight up and down, you can push the header up at the very rear of the engine (it helps if you take the starter off) and tilt it down into place. My friend and I did this with the longtubes on his '94 and we didn't have to jack the engine up. Hope this helps.

all header installs are gonna be slightly different, because everyones motor mounts are in varying conditions..............some people have their passenger side go in easy, adn the driverside is tough.

from what I hear, most all A4s can get away without jacking up the engine, but the M6s almost always have to.
