Anyone here a Florida state trooper? I just recently applied and might be moving down there later in the year, possibly summertime. just wondering how you like the job...benefits, pay, etc?

Damn! Nobody here is a trooper?? Ok then.....anyway, I get a notice yesterday in the mail, an "invite" to take Florida's written and physical...on 02/24....wish me luck!!

 

Good luck. I plan on doing that next year after I get out of the Army. You'll go through a 6 month course in Tallahassee which is about 3 or 4 miles from where I live and then they'll send you somewhere to work for at least a year until you can put in for a reassignment from what I'm told.

Then I can get on the highway in a Camaro and legally chase down ricers and get paid for it!

Hold on Ill go out and get the name of the guy that gave me that ticket the other day, and you can find out where he lives for me.

*note Im not one to get pissed about something I was most definetely guilty of, it was a questionable offense I was following the flow of traffic.

Ummm... That flow of traffic thing is a myth. He had one hook and you're the fish that got caught. Sorry.

As for the FHP's pay and benefits, I thought they were the lowest paid LEO's. That's what I was told anyway.

 

all the cops here in SC have camaros, state, local, deputies, silver, white, black & tan. one cut me off in traffic this morning, kinda putzing across 3 lanes. i was like why is a dude in a Z28 driving so slow, yet crossing 3 lanes of traffic? ....ooh.....

if you are going to Jax to take the physical, i got that empty house in GA you can use to stay in, save some $$ if the pay is that low.

 

Well if you do become a trooper and you see a red TA doing a $1.20 on the highway... I mean not that I ever excede the speed limit because thats against the law...

 

That's gotta be one of the best reasons to become a trooper.

The last time I checked their website, the starting pay was just under $30K per year and $900 more per year if you have your Bachelor's.

 

FHP starts at $32,500 a year. If you are in Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and maybe a few more counties you start at $37,000 due to the higher cost of living.

I am in the process for Broward Sheriffs Office and a few local PDs. Whoever offers me a job first is who I will go with. I really wouldn't apply with FHP unless you only want to enforce traffic, that is 90% of their job.

Look into Broward or Dade......lots of action, decent $$, and a lot of crime.
