Fort Myers area

My dad is moving to Fort Myers in a couple weeks, just wondering if there are any tracks in the area, or within a reasonable distance. Also what are the emission laws like there?

Re: Fort Myers area

There is an eighth mile track in Immokalee about 45 minutes away. I grew up there (Immokalee). Not a place to vacation.

Ft. Myers is kind of cool though. Mainly older (senior citizens) people.

Emissions is pretty much non-existent. What else would you like to know?

That's where I go (and probably most of the west coast), it's a great track.

Bradenton Motorsports Park looks pretty nice. I'm assuming that since they are an NHRA track that tech inspection is pretty tough?

I don't think that they are a NHRA sanction track because I have never seen or heard of any NHRA events held there, but don't quote me on that.

Tech is loose though......just need a helmet if run 12.99 or better I believe and as far as roll cages I think if you run in the 11's you will need one.

BMP is an IHRA track. On most test and tune nights, they don't have an IHRA official there, but when I was there on a Saturday morning there was an official inspecting the cars in the staging lanes for leaks, bald tires, etc.

It's 13.99 or faster. I was there one night and was told to get a helmet when I was in the staging lanes (after I made a pass and before I was about to make the next one) and once again by the guy in the timeslip shed after I made another pass. HJC makes a nice all black full-face helmet for $99, that's what I have.

Re: Fort Myers area

There is a place that will tune in Ft. Myers called Corvette Performance (at least it used to be).

If you go to a place called "Performance Plus" in Ft. Myers you can ask the guy who owns it (and works it), Jeff, and he'll know if there are any other shops.

DO NOT buy any parts from the guy. They are WAY overpriced (pretty sure the shop is a front for another "business") but he knows all the local gear heads.

PERSONALLY, I would just take the 2 1/2- 3 hour trip to Orlando and get it done by a nationally known (he's been in GM High Tech) pro, Mike Norris.

Just post a page for him in this section and I am sure he will pop up. User name The Vette Dr.
