Florida traffic rules....crossing single and double white lines
Florida traffic rules....crossing single and double white lines
I am originally from texas and have been going to school in florida now for almost 4 years.
i was taught while driving down the freeway or on any road for that matter, your not suppose to cross a solid white line. Although doesn't seem to stop anyone here in florida
Well in parts of jacksonville and orlando there are theres double white lines ares. they have signs that say "DO NOT CROSS DOUBLE WHITE LINES"
??
If your only supposed to not cross double solid line, then what are solid lines for?

Re: Florida traffic rules....crossing single and double white lines
i think double white lines divide opposing traffic and you're not allowed to pass someone in your own lane on double solid line. i think solid single lines are usually only used near intersections since you're not allowed to switch lanes through an intersection. broken lines you're allowed to pass someone. i've noticed people don't always follow the double solid lines law. as long as the road is clear people will still pass.
Re: Florida traffic rules....crossing single and double white lines
Well i mean for example,
Jacksonville, 295 south where it goes over the long bridge near orange pkw
there no opposing traffic, its 4 lanes all devided by double solid white lines with sighs saying you can cross.
Now on I4 coming in to sanford theres serveall places where there are single solid white lines...i was under the assumption that your couldn't cross those either...but why have both double and single??

Re: Florida traffic rules....crossing single and double white lines
Florida=Lots of old retired people or tourists. This means they can't even see the lines or they are distracted by the wonderful sites of the area
Re: Florida traffic rules....crossing single and double white lines
I have been in central florida for a bit, still figureing out what people do to drive.
I understand what people in south florida do when they drive. Just assume if someone can break a law, cut you off, just to get one carlength closer to their desitnation, and cause you to slam the brakes, then they will do it.

Re: Florida traffic rules....crossing single and double white lines
You are not supposed to cross the solid white lines. You will typically find these when crossing bridges. You can go to the below link and read chapter 316 regarding Florida traffic law..

And see here for road marking explanations..

Re: Florida traffic rules....crossing single and double white lines
the bridge your reffering too is the buckman other wise knwon as the "land speed testing site". Basically they dont want you to cross thos elines b/c of traffic is very heavy around that area about 4-7 and it was placed there to derease the amount of accedednts on 295 from the 17 exit to the 103rd st exit.
Re: Florida traffic rules....crossing single and double white lines
You are allowed to cross the solid single white lines but it's discouraged. It's only to be done when avoiding a hazard. Is a car that's making a right turn at the next intersection a hazard? Maybe so... Changing in an intersection is illegal and can get you a ticket if you find a cop with his panties in a bunch. Crossing solid double white lines is forbidden.
