F-Body Shops in North/Central FL

Long story short:

The 4L60E has been giving me problems for a while and is now officially on its last leg. I planned on pulling the tranny myself and taking it to a local rebuild guy here in gainesville.. the only problem was finding time from my classes. To add a royal pain in the *** I dislocated my shoulder last friday skateboarding -- so basically my left arm is immobile for 4 - 6 weeks.

I now am at the point where I'm going to just take it to a shop to get taken care of because of time, and my newly acquired shoulder injury. My question to you guys is what is a reputable shop (anywhere from Jax to Tampa basically, pref. Orlando or surrounding areas) that will do quality work where I won't have to give my othe functional arm to pay for it (i know it isn't cheap, but reasonably priced).

Thanks in advance,

I will look into that, do you know where I can get some contact info on them? Tampa is a decent haul from Gainesville so if you guys have any other suggestions, they are welcomed.

If Ocala is better check out Lane Automatics or Transmax.

Not too sure about a good one. I can definitely tell you to stay the hell away from the AAMCO on NW 13th Street. I know this company has a bad rep, but I'm basing this on personally getting *** raped by them in 2000. I ended up selling a car because they repeatedly overcharged me and did not ever fix my transmission after repeated attempts. The owner personally screwed me, lied to me, and charged me for things that should have been fixed right the first time. Because of my experience there, my subsequent cars are manual transmissions. I have dealt with several in Orlando as well as a Service Manager and they were sleazy, but so are a lot of other trans shop chains in Orlando that I have dealt with.

AAMCO on 13th in Gainesville? I was tempted to look into AAMCO, but I figured they'd basically only do a factory rebuild. I need something a little more performance oriented or else I'll be back in this position again in no time.

I don't know if you're from the Orlando area, but I highly recommend Harrell & Beverly Transmissions in Sanford.

They've been in business for over 50 yrs. I WILL NOT leave my car anywhere with anyone except for these guys, that's how much I trust them. Not to mention they know everything about transmissions, will give it to you straightforward and they're pretty reasonable.

Their number is either 407-321-8415 or 407-322-8415.

Yeah Joe that's why I put that post up. DO NOT NOT NOT go to that AAMCO. I would trust Anthony's recommendation for that shop if you're willing/able to bring the car to the Orlando area. I would also recommend Advanced Driveline in the Orlando area, I have heard very good things from a friend of mine about their quality and price, and I used to use them when I was a Service Manager for stuff like driveshafts cause their performance ones cost less than anything else but junkyards. Check them out as well.

I appreciate the heads up. With the way this rebuild is looking like it is going to cost, I might have to recruit some poor souls tp help me do it in my driveway and pay them in beer and hookers. Okay, probably not hookers, but will have a lot of beer.

Now I'm just trying to find someone that will do the labor for the rebuild, I'm going to buy all the parts.

I used to have the same mindset when I was in college and didn't have a lot of cash to throw at my car.

If I were you, I'd just bite the bullet and have a trained professional perform this procedure. That way you know it's done correctly and you'll have legitimate documentation, should something go wrong afterwards.

It sucks when things like this go wrong with our cars (I know), but you just have to deal with it.

No no no. I'm not doing the rebuild myself. I'm just having a handful of friends help me drop it and take it to a shop to have it rebuilt -- and upon reinstallation put in the Vigilante 2800 stall and LS1 Aluminum driveshaft I've got sitting around anyways.

When I lived in G-ville I dropped a couple trannys with some friends. Got paid in beer. Good luck, it shouldn't be too hard with even one friend to help out. Grab a couple twelve packs and some tools, and go to town!!

Re: F-Body Shops in North/Central FL

I dont know WHERE to take a tranny, but as everyone said, not AAMCO. I used to own AAMCOblows.com, but aamco bought it when I let it expire (im a dumbass). I had about 200 complaints listed on the site. And, FYI, AAMCO also owns aamcosucks.com/net/org. These people are really truly scam artists...
