check gages,, low oil pressure

in my work truck, 89 blazer. yesterday morning when i got to the jobsite and stopped i noticed that my check gages light was on and when i looked around i noticed i had no oil pressure. so i shut it off checked the oil and it was bone dry. so i put 2 quarts in and then on the stick it showed full. started it up and still the same thing. but i gave it a lil gas and it went away. and i had like 40 psi at qtr throttle. but when idling the check gages light comes on and the psi goes to 0.
any ideas as to y? and what should i do?
the truck has 187,000 miles on it. and this is the first tme any lights came on in the dash.

Re: check gages,, low oil pressure

put a good oil pressure test guage on there and see what the real pressure is

other than that, i'd say it doesn't look good...

hey thanks scott for that. well i actually went out there, started it up and it was at 70 psi in park for 5 minutes. so i think it just needed oil. tomorrow i will be driving it for a while and it will hopefully be fine. only time will tell
