Any shops do a4 to m6 conversion.

I was wondering if there were any tranny shops in or near west palm beach that have done or do a4 to m6 conversion kits for Lt1's and how much I may need to invest in this project .I have been thinking of the swap ,but do not have the tools, space,or know how enough to perform a flawless swap my self. Any info would be great. Thanks

Thats going to be expensive considering its going to be alot of labor costs involved with that. Lets say you find a whole conversion from someone and pay 1500 for it. A mechanic or goign to charge you at least 700-1000 in labor cost alone so plane on spending about 2500 on the whole thing and that not including a new clutch or flywheel, going to need a center consol and get the computer tuned for the 6-speed.

Local guy did it himself here I think he did it for under $2,000 whatever it was I think it was only slightly just more expensive then a good auto rebuild.

Re: Any shops do a4 to m6 conversion.

I did the swap myself back in December and yes it is a lot of work. I would think a talented guy in a shop with proper tools and a lift could do it conservatively in two days. With that in mind I would think the costs would be something like:

Tranny swap kit from junk yard $1,200-1,500
New clutch kit $450
Reprogram computer with shipping back & forth $120
Misc electrical pigtails & inner shift boot $60
LS1 console from junk yard $100-150 (Good luck finding an LT1 console)
Shop labor $800-1,200
Misc fluids, etc. $50

So that puts it in the range of roughly $2,800 to $3,500. Now this is just my opinion but remember that I have done this. I'm sure you can find the parts cheaper than I have listed but just remember you get what you paid for. Cheaper trannies are likely to be high mileage units that may need a rebuild.

Thanks for the replys guys. It appears unless I can perform the conversion myself it will cost more than I thought it would I was guessing around $2,000-2,500 for everything. For that price Id be better off selling the ta and buying a 6 speed.
Thanks Again for the info

I have also done the swap. I picked up a used 6spd and all the stuff needed for the swap for $1500. Then only $110 for a new Master Cylinder. I did all the work in my garage, and it only took my friend and I one day to do. Surf the For Sale boards and you'll find good deals. I looked for about 2 weeks before I found my 6spd for sale.

I've done it before on one of my Z's and would be willing to do it for $600 if you had all the parts ready. You should be able to get what you need for about $1500~$2000 for a total cost of what you expected. You would probably just have to come up for a three day weekend and drop off your car or stay at my place for the weekend. I got a 900 sqft garage with lots of tools. For one person alone it takes about 2 ~ 3 days to get it all done.
