Post Another wrecked Z28...

Well, almost 5 years and 170k miles later I wrecked my 93 Z28 into a guard rail on I-4 late friday night. Hit some kinda wet/oily patch on the SR-400/Daytona onramp, lost the back end, corrected it, lost it again hit one side and then the car spun out and plowed underneath the guard rail on the other side. It went UNDER the guardrail and slid sideways. My cowl hood was on the roof, the windshield was crushed by the guardrail. Cop shook my hand and said I was lucky to walk out of the car. I had to take my shoe off to get my pull my foot out between the steering wheel, floor and door. I had to get out the passenger side, everything was destroyed. The guardrail ripped the alternator off the motor. Anyone bigger than me would be dead.. I'm a small person, 5'6", 155 lbs. If the car hadn't stopped where it did I would be dead right now.

The wood from the guard rail pushed the floorpan up while the guardrail sliced downwards. Car is a total wreck. I have surface wounds and scrapes, and a real sore neck and back but otherwise I made it out. The people with me escaped with minor injuries, even not wearing their seatbelts, mostly because the car was sliding sideways as it slowed down. The worst injuries were to myself and a girl in the back seat who had a hairline fracture to her arm.

The roof was crushed down on my head, I actually hit my head on the roof, and even with the seat at it's lowest I'm normally at least 5" from the roof. If it were a T-top car I wouldn't be writing this to you today.

As another little note to this, as my car was being pulled out of the guardrail, a new Dodge Neon came flying around the onramp, noticed the flashing lights and locked his brakes up, sliding into the tow truck that we were all standing behind. Fortunately someone said RUN and we did... He ripped the front wheel off his car. I think he was drunk.

Sorry to hear about everyone else's wrecks. I have plans for the wreckage already, so I'll part out what's left. Please no more requests, I've had 4 motor/tranny requests already.

I have no immediate plans for another sports car, I'm going to put my time and money into my ex-cop car finally.. I'll be reading the Florida message board now and again but anyone who wants to keep in touch, my email addy is doug@dwwfl.com

Thanks everyone,

I'm sorry to hear about your car, and glad that you walked away from the wreck. It sounds like a horrible accident. Best of luck to ya.

Doug, sorry to hear about your loss man. I'm here up in Ormond permanently(or at least for an extended period of time), so if there's ever any car type thing going on post here or drop me an e-mail. Maybe you can transform the Caprice into a little brother for George Debski's Impy

No the dashpad isn't alive... it was broken prior to the accident.

I've been thinking about it more and more and I really don't miss the car at all.. the starter was bad, I had a rigged 93 Caprice alternator on it, the wiring harness was ghettofied, and the dash was cracked...

I'll post some pics when I get them.

Hey man, what would you take for the engine and tranny? j/k Sorry to hear about your luck. I just ran my girlfriends mustang off of an onramp in clearwater. I managed to guide the car between various objects and made away without a scratch. (on me or the car) If i would have so much of scratched that car, I'd be a dead man. By the way, I was driving the mustang to tampa to buy parts for my camaro.

That is the third wrecked Z28 in 3 weeks. I am wondering if I should just part out my Z28 and dump the cash into my SS. Mine is rebuildable, but I am beginning to wonder if it is worth the effort.
