listen for rear end whine, usually at cruise speeds.
not sure about LS1's, but i know that the LT1 waterpump is something to look for. they usually go bad.
and also the stuff other people mentioned, specifically window motors, and headlight motors.

Well the deal went bad for the 2000 T/A.They would'nt drop a Grand off the car and did not want to deal bunch of sorry a#$es!!
But the good news is I bought a 1997 6-speed T/A nothi'n special cloth interior coupe with 102K on the clock might not sound good at first but I only paid $3,000 for it no body damage runs great the only thing that I am going to change is the console(Black if any are for sale) and the plastic trim pieces that go around the inside door handles(Black also) They are all scuffed up.I Don't think I did too bad and hell now I have some money leftover for some mods

What's wrong if there is rear end whine? My brother just went a drove a 2001 SS for sale and put a deposit down to hold the car until this weekend-and it sounded to have a rear end whine. I don't want him buying a car if something is wrong with it. Any help is appreciated.

as far as i know, its mostly just annoying, but it could signal the gears going bad.....not really a huge deal. most people replace them with 3.73 or 4.11 anyway

my car has gear whine in reverse and during tight slow speed turns... its lasted prolly 20 or 25 launches at the track and quite a bit of abuse on the road and its still working just fine so far (famous last words)
