Anyone change steering wheel?

How about some pics and ideas, I want to replace the aweful plastic thing in my car. Can you trick the airbag sensor if it is removed? I just came back from a hot rod show in the track at Daytona. The had some just too cool billet wheels.

I got a Grant Corsa D shape wheel. I got rid of the air bag light by removing the coil in the column and the firing mechanism in the old steering wheel. Had to drill out the rivets to get it out. Then I duct taped the two together and plugged them back in and shoved them up inside the dash.

I notified my insurance company that the air bag was disabled. Didn't change anything.

The light stays out and I got a much better looking wheel that the monstrosity that came with the car.

What's the diameter of the stock wheel?

what adapter do you order when going w/ an aftermarket? Do you have to lie and tell them you have a 3rd gen so they won't freak about the airbag issue?

If I got a new wheel I'd want it about an inch smaller... and I'm not sure I'd do it unless I had harnesses in the car.

I picked the cheapest, lightest Grant I could find... at least the one that still looked decent. For all the safety messiahs... this is a "track only" car. Have you ever seen the airbags go off at the starting line when a component broke..... . It isn't pretty.

Grant GT steering wheel

I just pulled the bulb out of the "Airbag" light... the passenger side bag will be disappearing soon.

Hi Injuneer, I was hoping you could tell me where to get that steering wheel and how much it was, also do I need a hub or anything else to get the wheel to work or is it a direct replacement. Do you have part numbers by chance and prices. I would really appreciate the help
