High idle after relashing valves...vacuum leak?

All of my vacuum lines are hooked up. As soon as I relashed my valves, my idle has gone up by about 500 rpm in N and drive. Ive cleaned out the trottle body and the IAC thinking that might have been the cause but no luck. Ive puled the pcm fuse and it drops the idle on startup for about 30 seconds and then it goes back up to about 1500 in neutral and 900 in drive. I relashed the valves to 1/2 turn beyond zero lash. Too loose? Any ideas?

sounds like you might have made one or more of them too tight. relash them and only go a 1/4 turn more, also when you do it, zero lash is obtained by lifting the pushrod up and down, not by turning it until it stops turning. i figured id tell you that being that i dont know what method you were using.

I used the pushrod spin method like ive heard from everywhere else. Thats why I only went 1/2 turn instead of 3/4 to 1 extra like Ive read other places. Seemed like any tighter would have been too much.

yep, thats your problem doing the spin method is the wrong way. you will almost bottom out your lifter before it will stop spinning,(meaning one or more of your valves are not closing all the way now) and turning it a 1/2 turn will finish the job. you have to relash them by lifting the pushrod up and down until you cant anymore, then tighten the nuts 1/4 turn more to take out the rest of the lash, which will also slightly preload the lifters. do that and you should be good to go. hope i was able to help you, goodluck

I would not say spinining is wrong. It just has to be done correctly. The first sign of drag would be close to zero lash.

There are plenty of other methods, too. Use the one that works for you.

Also, I sure don't see how having them too tight is going to make the idle higher. If anything, it would be lower due to lost compression and it would feel rough.

As shoebox said i dont see it raising your idle? Valve lash is easy and should be done when the car is runing. It wont run right at all if you have them to tight. On my pic page 2http://cam355z.cz28.com (script on webpages is worthless!) is how i do all lash.

I did them just like shoebox's website said and was amazed at the performance increase (.2 sec in the 1/8th) as well as how much smoother the car ran. This makes me think that they are just fine if not a little loose. Im wondering if there may be a vacuum issue like a bad EGR showing itself now that there is more vacuum to the system now that everything is back in order at 105000 miles.
