rear-battery troubles!!
rear-battery troubles!!
I recently moved my battery to the back of my 96 z28, and I'm having a little trouble. I used #1 wire, and I grounded the battery to the frame in the back of the car. The car would BARELY start at all!! Then, a friend told me that i need to ground the motor if I did that....... so I ran a #4 wire from the alternator support bracket to a strut tower nut. An improvement, but it still doesn't want to start just right.
Do I need a ground somewhere else? Maybe a deep-cycle yellow-top battery? HELP!

When I moved mine to the rear, I used #1 and ran it to the starter solenoid -- about 10 - 11 feet. I left the stock battery cable from the starter sol to the orig batt terminal and bus block in place. This spring I'll cut off the old batt terminals and splice the wire together. The stock batt cable is a lot smaller than #1 so maybe if you ran the new cable up to the old terminal, you'd have a voltage and current loss that might cause your prob. I have no problems with my setup and its grounded to the car body under the rear hatch latch bracket. I added no wire to the motor -- I think the neg cable grounds to the body and then grounds to the block. Been a while since I did it so I'm not 100% sure. Hope this helps.
