Borla with Mecham tips, will tone or purr differ?

Hey guys I have a borla system. I want to put those big mecham tips. You can take a look here:
http://www.mechamperformance.com/d_docs/e_tips.html
Will the tone or purr of my borla change without the borla tips. Let me know guys.

It won't change the tone enough for you to notice. I've seen expanded tips help on the federal pass-by noise test, but they won't change the overall character of the system.

Borla claims their intercooled tips provides a more mellow tone so i guess it will be less mellow without the tips.

Borla can claim just about anything. When dealing with exhaust sounds, everything is subjective. How do you measure "more mellow?" You can't, so you can argue either point all day without being able to point at a graph or chart for proof. All I can say is that I've tried expanded tips on lots of different vehicles and it doesn't change the overall character of the system. Even those with a trained ear would be hard pressed to tell the difference 90+% of the time. OEM's add expanded tips for two reasons: It helps on a pass-by test, or for looks.

I will just tell you this I have a 69 mach 1 with the stock tips on it which are chrome dual tips on each side. I was driving it one day and one of the tips worked loose and fell off and it changed the sound quite a bit. I was just telling you that so the kind of tip can change the sound.

Yes, if the tip falls off and changes the developed system length significantly, it will change the tuning of the system. You will probably hear that (depending on the length of pipe that dropped off). You've changed more than just the diameter of the pipe at the end.

If you take two systems identical in length, tuning and silencer location, with one having an expanded tip and the other not, I doubt anyone but someone who's been in the industry for quite a while could hear the difference.

The length of the tip only added about 4 inches to the exhaust length. I am not trying to argue i am just telling you my experience.

One more thing, will my borla still pop? I thoguth that the borla tips contributed to the unique growl and popping sound borla has, or does the growl and popping sound have to do with the muffler? Can you guys clear this up for me.

It's more in the muffler tuning and engine tune. The tips should have no effect on popping.

If nateh is correct than I guess I'm getting those mecham tips. The only thing is that l I have no idea what the tips go for. Does anyone know how much some used borla tips cost?

so does this mean that you would be interested in selling them? what kind of condition are they in. are they clean or are they black from exhaust? any scratches or dents?
