Cutting hole for fuel pump install
Cutting hole for fuel pump install
Seems to me like it would be much easier to cut a hole in the trunk to install a new fuel pump. When your done, just silicon the piece back in or overlay a piece of sheetmetal and screw it down. I know people have done this before, but is there any adverse effects of doing this. It would be much better than dropping the tank. I'm installing the racetronix kit, and I hope this way will work. Any opinions?

LOL, gotta laugh at the "flame suit" thing .

It could be fitting in more ways than one.

Perhaps we can find your problem?

As long as:
Your tank o-ring seal is OK as you do not want to ignite any vapors while cutting the hole.
The hole is large enough so you do not have to fight to get the fuel module out. You do not want to bend anything.
You do not nick any wires or lines when cutting the hole.
You seal the hole so vapors can not get in the car.
You will still have to get under the car to run the harness and plug it in.
Racetronix dealers such as Agostino can re & re a LT1 system in 2.5-3 hours factoring in a cross-flow muffler so I don't see the difficulty in doing the job w/o cutting a hole? Perhaps having a hoist and an extra set of hands helps though...

If you want to put in a trap door to your fuel pump, do the job right the first time by dropping the tank. Once you have the tank out then put in your hatch. Keep your trap door install from becomeing your trap!
