What trade offs are you guys noticing the hotcam, more of what type of driveability problems are you encounter if any at all?

Besides the slightely lopey idle, mine seems to run just as it did before the cam.

With Ed Wright tuning, none at all..except for the 1100 rpm idle.

Will you need the 1100 RPM idle? Or is that approx what you need??

Except for a loppey idle (850 rpms) and a rich smell due to no cats the car runs fine. I run it with a Bryan Herter OBDI conversion and with 3.73's I still got 20 mph on the interstate. I have gone to 4.10's so I am sure that 20mpg will drop. Other than that it is a good street cam.

Have no idea why he put it like that..must be a good reason. Said something about a stall converter will bring it down to 850.

I used pcmforless.com with my hotcam and it runs like a champ, I can still easily pass cars on the highway at 1500-2000rpms and has a strong pull all the way up to 6200...

btw... the idle speed is still the same for me (1000k on tach)

I have 4.10's and still get 22+mpg on the highway, with the hotcam.

What, won't emissions testing facilities have a crap on themselves if you try to run through with a 1,100rpm idle??!!

I'm wondering because I'm doing a Hotcam and it'll be 6 months at least before I can afford a stall.. I'm also staying with 3.23 gears for now.

Was able to achieve a great idle with LT1 edit. Went with 925 idle in neutral and 750 in gear (both with warm engine). Drives around town like stock. Except when you hit the throttle....

Remember the tachs on these cars are not accurate, your idle is probably 900-950.

Mine is pretty much spot-on when compared to the output of the computer (LT1 Scanmaster).
