2 ques. pulling the balancer and engine block drain plug.
2 ques. pulling the balancer and engine block drain plug.
1. I need to pull the crank pulley and it's not coming off with the hammer thing. So what type to I use? one that threads into the bolt holes or one that goes on the outside edge?
2 I pulled the drain plug from the drivers side of the block and now I cant get it back in. do I have to drop the catalytic converter?
on a side note what if I pull the converter can I then remove the stuff inside? or is this not that type of converter?
Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Ed

I can only answer the first question. The crank pully is not supposed to need a puller to get it off. Just remove the three bolts and it's supposed to come right off. However this is the real world and things get rusty. So you sometimes need to use a three jaw puller. It will come off easily with that. If what you mean is that you need to get the hub off which sits on the end of the crankshaft snout.....Then you need to first take off the pulley. Then remove the bolt in the center holding that on. The next step is to get a harmonic balancer puller. You'll need an allen head bolt which is smaller than the threads of the bolt used to hold the hub on the snout. Insert that into the hole. Get three grade 8 bolts and nuts which pass through the three holes of the hub. (A standard puller does not have the correct bolt size.) Place the puller on the allen head bolt, put the three bolts through the holes to balancer hub with nuts threaded onto the back so the puller can pull it off and remove the the hub. Remember to mark the relationship of everything if you're tearing it down further so your timing will be correct!
