Re: OBD2 to a loptop
Are you just looking to monitor and pull codes? If so, Autotap will do it. Just be sure to get the gm enhanced parameters with it.
If you are looking to change program parameters, then you'll need Jet DST. That can get expensive.
I have both of these software packages and they were not cheap.
I assume you have a 96 or 97 correct?

Re: OBD2 to a loptop
ok i got a 96 z28 but i "scan xl pro" if ya ever heard of it.. i wanna be able to see all of my guages on the laptop and then this program will allow a ecu dino 0-60 times reaction times and everything else that u can imagine but all i need is to get the cord to attach to the computer if ya know were a good place is that would be great.
Re: OBD2 to a loptop
Are you trying to display the dash gauges? The only ones you will be able to display are the ones connected to the PCM, which would be the tach and the speedometer. You can display coolant temp, but that would be the reading from the sensor in the water pump, not the one on the drivers side head that feeds the dash gauge. Or are you trying to display other PCM parameters in "gauge" format?
AutoTap, enhanced parameters, as has already been mentioned. I have it for my OBD-II GM vehicles and it's good.

Re: OBD2 to a loptop
No, I don't know what you mean.
IF you are asking "are the claims and descriptions made on the AutoTap website accurate", the answer is yes.
Using a device of the type you linked for a "dyno" is not going to produce meaningful results.

I use ScanXL Standard on my '97 and I like it a lot, it's also got a GM enhanced package you can buy. I can get screen shots of it if you want.
I've also used the Android DashCommand app (from the same company) on my HTC EVO, its really great for gauges but doesn't have the GM specific stuff so the information is limited to basic stuff and trouble codes.
I'm just using the OBDLink Bluetooth they sell on their website for both my laptop and my phone, haven't had any troubles with it. Its got bluetooth for the phone, and a USB connection for the laptop.

You can get the basic USB version (software + cable) for $189, and then add another $89 if you want the GM specific stuff. I got it here (except I have the bluetooth version so I can use it with my phone too):

I wouldn't get ScanXL Pro, the features that it gets extra over ScanXL Standard doesn't seem like most people would really use it. If anyone wants to know about these features the list is here:

I use Torque on my android phone with a cheap ebay OBD2 bluetooth adapter to see gauges and scan trouble codes.
