The stock lt1 WS6 setup is very good and about the best you can do as it flows as good as any aftermarket CAI kit. If you truly have the stock WS6 intake setup, keep it.

If you have the factory ws6 intake keep it and install a K&N filter; if not then the ls1 lid is what I am using with my ws6 hood. Those are the two best intakes for the lt1 motor.

Re: ws6 ram air intake

Three possible modifications to the stock WS6 setup in addition to the K&N:

-cut back, or fully remove the two vertical baffles from the hood scoop, to straighten the air flow. Stock, they totally block air flow, and force it to make three changes of direction, before the air reaches the airbox.

-cut out the "grid" on top of the airbox cover.

-replace the corrugated rubber bellows between the MAF sensor and the throttle body with a $6 Fernco smooth rubber sewer pipe connector.

I have done 1 and 3. I wouldn't hack up the box. I didn't go crazy on the hood as when I did it, it was still a daily driver. I definitely could have gone a lot more but if you look right, you can see a fairly straight shot from the front to back.

Injuneer-

Is it possible to fit the WS6 style ram air box setup on an LT1 Camaro with the functioning SS hood? It's a '96 Z28 and the hood sends the air looping around to the top of the radiator.

It's not the hood requires the air box on top of intake manifold.

Thanks!

Re: ws6 ram air intake

Given the fact the the factory SS hood scoop is a couple feet further back from the location of the stock WS6 hood scoop, it's hard to see how you would make it work. Why don't you want to use the stock SS components? It's not the most efficient system, but it looks cool.

SLP used the same airbox I have with their Ultra-Z hood for the Camaro, but it had the nostrils moved forward so they were in the same location as the WS6 hood nostrils.

Re: ws6 ram air intake

When you say stock SS components, you mean the one the wraps around to the top of the intake manifold? If so, what kind of hood modifications are necessary?

I'd just love this hood to work and have some kind of air intake to fit inside. I like the ram air set up, for the look more than the efficiency, honestly.

Any ideas? I appreciate it.

Re: ws6 ram air intake

This is really confusing.

EXACTLY what hood do you have? Sounded to me from your other post like you had a STOCK/FACTORY SS hood. If that's not the case, you have to tell us the exact hood - manufacturer, style, etc.

If you have a stock/factory SS hood, and the stock/factory airbox and ducting (airbox sits on the intake manifold, ducting comes out the drivers side and wraps around in a U shape to the MAF sensor), why would you need to modify the stock SS hood to fit the stock airbox/ducting?

I guess I'm missing something here.

Re: ws6 ram air intake

Sorry! Let's start again.

The hood I have is an SS style hood. It is NOT the factory SS hood. The air goes through the scoop, splits into two ducts, wraps around and spits out over the fan shroud. At the front of the engine compartment. I'd love an air intake setup that works for that. Something similar to the WS6 ram air setup.

Hope that makes more sense!!

Post a picture of what you have since it's still unclear.

Re: ws6 ram air intake

Alright. Here is the underside of the hood I have. It shows where the air is coming through (the big blue arrow right in the middle is where the air ends up). I think I essentially need something like the LS1 lid setup for an LT1. Just don't know where to start with it.
