Strange Problem
Strange Problem
Ok so i want to start by saying that i have done alot of research before i posted.
Car history:
I just bought the car about 2 weeks ago. When i bought it it needed a tranny rebuild because it was missing 2 and 4 gear. it also had a ses light on. I removed the trans and sent it to a local garage to be rebuild. Few days later i reinstalled the car and started no problem except the ses light was still on. Upon first drive i noticed that it did not have 1st or 3rd gear. So i proceeded directly to the garage where the trans was rebuild. They hooked it to the computer and noticed a whole bunch of codes. (never gave me the list of them). They precoded to clear the codes and drive around the block. When they got back with the car he stated that he though the ECM was dieing. I left the shop drove the car home and parked it. Later that day i went to go out and the car would not start. No crank or anything. This is where i did some research and found it could be a issue with VATS. I did the whole leave the key in the on position for 20mins. Came back and now the car will crank but no start. I cant hear the fuel pump turning on.
My question is could clearing all these codes of messed up something in the ECM or did it just finally die.
PS this engine is not the stock engine it was replaced be the past owner. any help would be great.

ok well to be safe and go with what the garage has said i replaced the ecm. Just finished installing it and the car is still acting the same. Cranks but no start. I can not hear the fuel pump prim when the key is turned to the on position either. i will be going and garbing a code reader today.
You will be wasiting a lot of time and money if you don't go through the basics. Scan for codes and write them down, check ALL fueses, and check ALL connections. Then come back and tell us what you find. Trust me, this is not the kind of car you want to go replacing parts ***** nilly. It gets expensive real fast!
Ok so let me clear some things up and do a little update.
The reason for replacing the PCM was it was a recommendation from a local garage that did the trans rebuild. The car is now running and it was due to a loose fuse. But the trans problem is still there and the SES light is still also on. I have put a call in to the garage that rebuild the trans and showed my concerns. I still do not have 1st gear the car is starting out in 2nd and going threw 3rd but does not have OD. It is being dropped off tonight and will be on the lift tomorrow. Any ideas or thought to what this problem could be would be great as soon as i get the codes i will be sure and post.
Thanks for your help.

A fuel pressure test would also be a good idea.
NO but it would tell you if the pump was even priming..... which he said he didnt know if it was or not. Wouldnt make too much sense to run a pressure check if the pump wasnt priming, you might wanna read the post instead of insulting people.
That's all well and good but just because it spits fuel on the ground doesn't mean it is pumping the required 43 psi of pressure. If the op was uneasy about his fuel pressure the best way is to put a gage on the fuel rail and find out exactly what is going on. Anything less than that would still be pure speculation....
I understand that but in his post he said he couldnt tell if it was priming, a way to check that is to un hook the line and let it spit, i never said dont check the pressure, its just an easy way to start cause if the pump wont prime then it would be an electrical issue with the pump. I wasnt trying to say if it primes then it is performing correctly
