New engine

I am getting ready to put in a new engine in my z28. I am replacing the old LT1 with a fresh rebuilt one. There's a few things I need advice on. One is getting some Pacesetter LT without the A.I.R. or EGR. If I do that would I need a catalytic converter or can I just true dual it. I want to dump it down before the rear tires.
The other is taking out the A.I.R. What do I have to do to take that out. I know it won't do much for HP gain, but I hate that always in the way when I'm working on my car.
The last thing is do I take the engine from the bottom. or can i take it out from the top. I plan on breaking down the top of the engine first before taking it out anyway.
Some advice would be appreciated.

The AIR pump/EGR can be deleted as long as you don't need to pass emissions in your state. The AIR pump aids in heating up the cats during cold start. It's your choice if you want cats or not. If not you'll need to program out the rear O2s or install O2 simms.

Removing the AIR pump is easy - just remove everything! You may or may not get an SES light because the O2s will look for the effect of the AIR pumps added oxygen on the post-cat O2 sensors. This is easily fixed with a PCM tune. There is ZERO HP gain by deleting these emissions components.

Once you take the engine out the bottom you'll never take it out the top again. Here's a good link.

Thanks I don't believe the emissions is that big of a deal where I'm from kind of a small town, anyway I'll order the longtubes without the emissions, but where can I find o2 sims. After the engine purchase I have roughly about 1400 dollars to play with.
And the for the PCM tune, is that something I could do myself.

Many of the supporting vendors of the site carry them. You should be able to browse around and find a few. You will need the four pin square connectors. A better scenario is to have the rear O2s programmed out when you get a PCM tune. No simms required.

For tuning, it's best left to the professionals if you have no experience. Check out www.pcmforless.com. I have been using them for 10 years with fantastic results.

You will also get codes for deleting the EGR and AIR. You will have a constant SES light unless you have those systems "programmed out" of your PCM.

mad z28 and several other sites can tune out your rear o2s for around 150 dollars as well as program the pcm for any additional upgrades you have on the car such as headers
