94 Z28 hasn't been started in over two years...
Hey all, I'm a newbie to the site my names Evan I'm helping a friend get there 94 Z28 going again. The car was running well but was parked over two years ago when the 4L60E went out it has Reverse, 1st and 2nd. So, I started today I checked the gas tank it was bone dry so I added about a gallon of premium and cycled the key a couple times cranked it over lightly a couple times in hope to recirculate the oil a bit, then tried to fire it up and no luck, I know its getting fuel, I can see oil pressure on the gauge while it cranking, I haven't checked if theres spark. Any ideas??? or what to do bring the LT1 back to life after sitting without damaging anything?
Thanks,
Evan.
Thanks,
Evan.
Was the tank dry because it was emptied before it was stored, or because is was left with a partial tank, and the fuel evaporated?
How did you verify its "getting fuel"? What is the fuel pressure? How do you know the injectors aren't crusted up with dried out fuel?
Have you scanned the PCM for codes?

I scanned the PCM for codes today and it showed all clear. When I cycle the key on and off I hear a sound that sound like a vacuum running for a couple seconds and off I assume thats the smog pump hopefully not the fuel pump. I thought it was getting fuel cause I could smell raw fuel from the exhaust after cranking it over a few times almost like a flooded carb. I'll add more gas and check the opti
as soon as you turn your key on the fuel pump will cycle.. if you put just 1 gallon in it that probably isnt enough to fill the filter, lines, and rails. add a couple more gallons..
check fuel pressure, if its good, i would probably change fuel filter
(use ac-delco fuel filter, not fram) just to be safe that the fuel filter doesnt come apart on you, it could be dried out on the inside and brittle..
pull a plug, set it on the manifold with it hooked up to the plug wire and do a quick check to see if your getting fire..
shoot some starting fluid or brake cleaner thru the throttle body and see if it tries to fire..

if it was parked with fuel in it, and sat that long the fuel probably evaporated and what i call, varnished the fuel pump...
gas will evaporate and leave a varnish that can wreak havoc on a fuel system.
