Finally 10's pumpgas 383 LE3! all motor.

Well most of you guys know me and my car but here is a link to my old GMHTP article when the car had a 355" LT1, http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...ure/index.html
Since then I built a new 383 Lt1, bought the rotating assembly from the forsale section and a stock high mileage, standard block to start with. I used the same LE3 heads and LE solid roller cam that was in my old 355" engine, flattop SRP pistons, Eagle h-beams, eagle forged crank, splayed mains same intake TB exhaust etc.. and put it together myself. I brought the car out to the track with some 29.5x10.5 slicks about 4weeks ago and ran 11.18@126mph spinning pretty bad and the big tires were rubbing in the fenders. So a friend gave me some old 28x10.5" M/T slicks to go try out the car again and see what this new combo would run on the motor before I turned the n2o on. So I went to SCR track last nite, kind of last minute and had some great runs.
First run off the footbrake the car ran:
1.54 60'
7.08@97mph 1/8th
11.07@125mph hit the limiter on 1-2 shift.
Then put my airpan on and left off the T-brake@4krpms
1.47 60'
6.90@99mph
10.82@127.8mph!!! WOW
Now this is only second time out with the new setup and will only get better from here. I have to thank Lloyd Elliott for giving me a great heads/cam setup that is making some real good HP.
Last pass it was getting late and the dew was starting to set in but I tried anyways.
1.54 60' spinning
6.98@98.6mph
10.91@126mph
The weather was pretty good, 175' above sealevel on the 10.82 pass according to a fellow racers weather station. Sometimes we get -1000' Da around late November- December so I plan on making it out with new tires in better weather to see what I can get this old LT1 to run before I turn the n20 on. later Clint

Thanks, I ran 11.009@122mph last year with my old 355 and it was nice to get into the 10's on motor which was my goal for quite some time now. I knew as soon as the car left the line, it yanked the wheels up about a foot high, that it was going to be my first 10second pass on motor. It was a good feeling. later

Good job Clint, been waiting for a while now to see how your new set-up would preform. Looks like it's everything it should be. Knowing your attention to detail I'm not surprised you hit 10s on only the second outing. Can't wait to see what it does with a little fine tuning. Once your happy with the motor times how much spray are you willing to throw at it? Rick

PS...Lloyd, nice to see some more of your work kicking butt.

glad to see you are getting back to the track.

I can understand how having twins puts a halt to track outings.

hopefully you can get back to the track soon and see some more good results.

Does the 383 feel much different than the 355 in your opionion other than more torque ? Did you do a lot of grinding ?

Thanks guys it's been awhile since I have been to the track with the car running hard but I have been really busy these last few years with 3 kids in 4yrs and starting a coatings buisness the T/A was way on the backburner. The car weeighs 3,450lbs with me in it no stripper here both front seats in, carpet, T-tops, front bumper support in, foglights etc.. and a T/A. I plan on starting out with 150HP and most I plan on spraying is probably 200HP but u never know. LOL I am really still trying to figure out why it's gaining 28+mph from the 1/8th to the end. I am going to try turning it up a little higher between shifts this weekend. Later

Yeah I had to put the car off for a couple years but it is fun having the car run great right off the bat. Looking over my notes last Friday nite we started 28x10.5slicks at 14psi cold and dropped to 13psi but should have started @12 and dropped to 10-11-1./2 #'s. I am headed back out this Saturday during the day instead of at night when the track gets slippery. Madman is going to run some customers cars so I will get to take advantage of his experience with these F-bodys. It is a race day so the track should be prepped well. The car still has stock rear shocks and needs a set of rear Strange or Afco double adjustable shocks which are $500+ so it will have to wait until after Christmas but with some fine tuning on the suspension it should get real good numbers. I'll post the results on Sunday or Monday. Later Clint

What do I have in my car that makes it weigh so much more? LOL I know I'm a fat-***, but there is no way I'm 150 more than you.
