Crank Hub Spun Off. Crank Damaged?. Fix?
Crank Hub Spun Off. Crank Damaged?. Fix?
I recently replaced the opti AGAIN on my 95Z. the crank bolt was looking prety rough but I didnt replace it. about a week later I seen my ballancer and hub racing next to me. it spun off!.. so I went to put it back and it slides on easily and seats. no pressure needed. I hope my crank is ok. it looks kinda scratched up (its not forged). the threads in the crank and fine just the bolt was stripped. I ran a chaser and another bolt in there and they are good. But i am not going to install this ballancer and pully since the crank would just spin inside it I think.
so should I try just a new ballancer with hub and see if that hub fits snug or just get a keyed hub? what are my option for keyed hubs? Thanks

For the harmonic damper to do it's job, it has to be an interference fit on the crank - just because it can be held in place with a bolt does not mean that its okay to use.
You need to inspect the crank and damper and see where the damage is. Take some pictures and accurately measure the crank snout.

I bought a used hub and balancer and bolted it on, it was a very tight fit like it should be. I then ran it 10 mins, tightened the bolt (got another roation out of it). then ran it for a few hours, re tightened (got another half rotation). and I checked it after a few days it is was still tight. Looks like I got away cheap on this one. whew.
