Exclamation GEN 1 3.8 vs Gen 2 3.8

i have a 2000 firebird, motor is lockec up. and i can get my hands on a 3.8 out of 96 or 97 firebird, will they direct fit in? or do i have to change some other stuff too? I heard you had to change upper intakes??? thanks with all the help.

It's the same motor believe it or not. i have a 96 and it says "3800 Series II" just like all the other 4th gen 3.8Ls. I don't see where on earth you heard you had to change upper intakes. I have a friend with an 01 and her motor looks just the same as my 96. only difference is the tubular manifolds but they're both OBDII computers so it wouldn't make a difference IMO. Now i would try to get the computer with the new motor if i could if i was you if you're concerned about those kind of issues. just do a straight swap and you should be fine.
