96 ss ramair box

ok so heres the problem. I have a 96 SS and the factory ram air box is broke where the bolts on the fuel rail hold it down. I was wondering if there is a place an oem air box could be purchased, or is the only alternative an aftermarket one of some sort?

Thanks Chris

mine is also broken on the drivers side. It sits crooked now. Must be a thing. SLP doesn't have a replacement. all they have is the top cover and its very expensive. I'd say keep an eye on here for one, or check ebay. Probably gonna PAY for one though. I plan to go with FI in the future so I don't care about it really. Good luck with the search.

I found one somewhere, they made the SS Hood aftermarket and carried the Airbox to make it work. There out there just not from SLP anymore. Maybe it was Suncoast, I cant remember.

thanks. also, i was looking at where the air box actually bolts down. does it use the front bolts on the fuel rails or is it supposed to bolt to the the holes behind those?

Mines not even bolted down to anything, got tired of having to take the air tube and filter apart to get to anything, it just rest on the top of the intake, and the hood keeps it where it is suppose to be when its shut.

You may be able to fix it with some JB Weld and some washers if the bolts have just pulled thru the holes.

Both companies make an Airbox - the RKSport one is about $100 cheaper than the Suncoast Airbox. BUT from what I've read all the aftermarket ram air boxes are different from eachother and different from the stock piece.

They mite be close enough to make work - but I've never found anyone who knew for sure. I was looking into this while looking for an SS airbox myself. I have a Suncoast Hood, so it looks like I'll be stuck paying $300+ for the damn Air Box.

Ya now that you mention it mine is getting in bad shape too, its cracke dapart in places were the seams come together.

But that doesnt matter at the moment as MY CAR WONT START!!!

Left the parkiing lights on the other night killed the battery. When I went to jump it it was a no GO. So I figured I killed killed the battery so I got a new one, NOPE. So now I have this new battery that I dont need, and if Its the starter I dont have the money for a new one unless I can take this battery back.

I might try push starting it see if the starter is engaged and stuck, but this might be why it was starting hard.

Contact me if any of you guys want to sell one of these SS airboxes in poor condition. I have a project that I'll probably be OK with one that is in rough shape.

If its just plastic, take it to a local bumper cover rebuilder and see if they can plastic weld it for you? Shouldn't be too expensive...
