LT1 vs LS1

I know the LS1 cars are faster while the LT1 cars are cheaper. But for an initial cost of $5,000 which car is better from the get go?

depends on what you want to do with it i guess. If you want to make it fast and race it. Then ls1 is probably the better choice. If you want looks, I'd go with the lt1, you can make either one a beast right.

for 5,000 you're going to get a ragged out POS LS1

but it is still the better platform for performance

Cool

It's all opinion, but I like the torque and snap I get from my LT1 versus my buddy's LS1. Then again, the 4.10" in the rear help.

The initial price is important, but more importantly is what budget for mods do you have? With a lt1 you can get more mods as they are cheaper in general than in the ls world where mods cost more. But the ls will respond to mods better than the lt1. So if you got the bank account go ls, if you are on a budget go lt1.

About the only reasons to choose a LT1 over a LS1 are purchase price, and some people like the styling of the LT1 cars better...

I love my LT1, but if I were going to buy today I'd spend a few more bucks and get a LS1.

ok im currently in the market for a camaro again. I have a 01 gt with bolt ons and im looking into a z28 after i trade the gt for a family car. My first car was a 91 z28 and my friend had two z28's with lt1 and they were pretty fast from what i recall.

My question is that i am not very rich being in the military and how do the LT1's take upgrades compared to the 01 gt small 4.6liters? Also is there any year to stay away from? and is it better to just get a LS1

Your best bet is an LS1 f-body. They respond very well to mods. There is a TON of potential in the LSX platform. I'm not sure how the 4.6 responds, but I know they are no slouch. Kinda impressive coming from a 281 cube engine. Anything can be made to run. IMHO the LSXs are still too expensive to build when it comes to digging into the engine. LTXs aren't far behind from a cost prospective. You'll get more from an LS, but the LTs are still impressive. Guys are in the 11s with just heads/cam/supporting mods with them. Do some searching on here and come to your own conclusion. If I were doing it over I'd buy a LS1 camaro and put the LT1 SS style front end on it.

If yer not looking to make over 500hp, just get yerself an ls1 and upgrade what you can afford when you can afford it. Dollar for dollar, unless you're talking nitrous, the ls1 will take to the mods better, and this is coming from a diehard lt1 owner, so dont you guys start up this whole lt1>ls1 BS because you know its true. Lt1 is a dinosuar now,......lsx upper end flows much better in stock form, and when you do basic bolt-ons, they respond VERY well. You can make great RWHP from just a cam swap and the supporting mods like exhaust, stall or clutch, and gears.
Now on the other hand, you can probably find someone whos looking to ditch thier modded lt1 for whatever reason, and not have to do anything to the car for about 5k. Food for thought.

Vs

I would not say the LT1 is a dinosaur. More like a alligator that survived the big bang.

I remember in '97 I had a '68 Camaro with a 350 bored 30 over, 4 bolt main block from a '86 pu, decked double hump heads, 1.6 roller rockers, Elderbock performer RPM intake and 4bbl 750cfm carb, a really radical lunati cam, 2800 stall, hooker super comp headers, flows...etc

Anyways, this other guy had a '97 Z28 that was like the fastest car in the school at the time. One day at the light in front of the campus he rolls up next to me and heard I was saying my Camaro was faster because I beat a M3 and some 5.0 stangs really bad. However, when that turned green and his Z launched on me, I was thinking I would catch him... I never did just a slow crawl.

Then in 2002 I got a '93 and sold the '68 for 4k right before the muscle car boom created by Barret Jackson. Now that car is worth 4x that, shoot I can not even get a rolling chassis for 4k now.

Just wanted to throw that out there. The newer Camaro will always be better!
