95 Z28 Cam removal

Is it possible to remove the cam without pulling the engine. My car needs lifters and when i change then I wanna put a can in it as well as roller rockers, valve springs and headers. I'm planning on doing all this together to save me the trouble but i'm not sure i wanna pull the engine on it.

Yes it's possible but it's way easier to pull it.

I think pulling the engine would be more of a hassle than a cam swap, unless you have all the tools and a lot of work space. Just read Shoebox's guide, helps a lot.

you can do that if you have a lift to lift the body. If I didnt have the shop I have then i'd be doing cam swaps in the cars i've worked on. its a lil more difficult but you cant really beat the time it takes to pull the motor and do it vs. the time to do it in the car.

I did it. I couldn't get the condenser out of the way and pull the cam by myself, so I had to disconnect that.

IMHO, one of the primary reasons for spun bearings is a bad cam swap. Swapping the cam with the engine in place requires a great deal of careful attention to the installation to ensure that no parts are damaged and no dirt is gets in. And if you spin a bearing and ruin the block, etc. you are going to have to remove the engine anyway.

I would recommend removing the engine when doing any significant mods, especially those in addition to the cam install. It is a gazillion times easier to work on the engine and do it right when the engine is on a stand. JMHO.
