using a older 383 crank in lt1

given to me. Whats involved in converting for usage in a lt1?
I heard theres an adapter for the main seal. Anything else? I got a buddy with a 02 S/C'ed gt stang i wannna seal the deal on. Figured sincei have a my built short block on a stand. Now is the time to do it. combined with a cc305 cam, 1:6 RR's Valve springs. Gasket matched heads and intake. Hoping for a nice real world 370 WHP. Looking for a nice low to mid tq # also. (Side note, nitrous kit on side for extra back up, I've never sprayed any car so all new for me).
Any help be great
videos and times in sig.

The rear main seal adaptor is available from GM, Moroso, Goodson, or other vendors. In order to install it correctly you'll need a gasket and an pilot tool available through Goodson Tools.

http://www.goodson.com/store/templat...l.php?IID=4706.

I just checked the link and it's still good. The pilot tool can help you avoid getting the adaptor set up a few thousandths off and ending up with a main seal leak. You may be sure that you can get it right without the pilot but for $30 it's a time saver.

With a 3.750 stroke crank you may find that you need to grind some clearances into the block and, with some designs of rods, you may have an interference between the big end of the rod and the cam. The only way to tell for sure is to mock it up and check it out.

Good luck.

You'll want to make sure you know if the crank was designed for internal or external balance before you buy a flexplate. Other than those few issues, the 383 assembly will work in an LT1 block.
