95 Z28 Gets too hot?

Hello this is my first post!..I just bought a 95 Z28 with 130k on it. I was wondering if it was normal for the car to get about 3/4 of the way to hot before the cooling fan turns on?

The car has a new radiator, radiator cap, water pump, and thermostate. Is this normal becuase i dont want to damage my engine by running it too warm?

Is there anything i can do to get the fans to turn on sooner?

I'm not Completly sure but I think it can be programmed to come on earlier. Someone will jump in and confirm that.

Ok can anyone point me in the right direction to wire my fans to come on when the ignition is switched to the on position?

It's not really needed to have them running all the time. I still think you have to reprogram the pcm(computer) to change when they come on. If you want a cooler running motor there are other things you can do. change the thermostat to 160 degree one. makes a big difference and is cheap. You can also add water wetter which lowers it by a few degrees also cheap. I just don't see a reason to have it running all the time. Turn the air conditioning on and both fans will run all the time.

Stock programming in your 95 turns the fans on low speed at 226*F and high speed at 235*F. If its running above 235*, can you hear the fans running?

There are two different coolant temp sensors - one on the driver's side head for the dash gauge, and another in the water pump housing, feeding the PCM. You have to make sure the sensors are accurate. The one in the head could be causing the gauge to read higher than actual temp.

We have a large number of forums, and LT1 cooling is best posted on "LT1 Based Engine Tech", not on "Advanced Tech". I'll move your post to the LT1 forum......

Ok sorry for being a newb...If 226-235 is normal i will add water wetter and check the coolant temp sensor in the head.

Thanks for all your responses!

Close to normal for stock.

If you are unfamiliar with the cooling system, read about it on my Tech Page.

if the car is idling, that is completely normal. My 95 z28 runs up to the 3/4 mark on the gauge, the fans come on and bring it back down to 190, fans shut off and it goes back up etc.

However, if you are driving at a decent speed and wind is hitting the air damn your car should run a little below halfway. Atleast thats where mine runs.

When the gauge gets to 3/4 of the way up, put your hand in front of the fan (be careful) and chech to see if they are coming on.
