I would just go buy 2 cans of the recharge stuff w/leak fixer for $30 and put it in!

Most certainly...NOT.

Refrigerant does not just get used up like a tank of gasoline.

You have a leak somewhere that needs to be pinpointed or you can count on tossing refrigerant away along with the purchase price of said refrigerant. Quite quickly, too, as these newer systems only take a couple of lb's at most, so I'd advise against the advice already given.

Yeah-you are probably right there IS a leak, but it is relatively cheap to find out if it is just a simple problem or if you have a much larger leak. Besides, to me if someone is not that knowledgeable, and if it costs them $30 a summer to have a/c who cares

ok, so i ran the a/c last night on my way home from lowes, and when i got home, i popped the hood and felt the compressor. it was hot. im thinkin about puttin in a can to see if the compressor at least gets cold, then i will know if there is a leak...should i be able to feel the leak while/after puttin a can in?

When you buy the refrigerant get one that comes with a UV pen light. I got one from Autozone that had two cans and the light. The cans have dye in them and at night you can shine thelight and look for leaks. It worked for mine. They can not find a leak in mine but I had to recharge it after only 2 years from the last recharge where they also could not find a leak. So mine must have small leak somewhere that they can not find because it does loose the refrgerant over time....yous could be in the same boat.

with the car running have your AC off, look under the hood at the compressor, then have someone turn the AC on, see if the pulley is spinning or not, none of you suggested this to him, he may be feeding Freon into a bad compressor just a thought.
