Moroso Intake for a 93 Z28

Summit has an intake listed for a 94-97 Z28:
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

And one listed for a 93 Z28:
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Now my question is, why won't the 94-97 one fit a 93 Z28?

Also, will a K&N Replacement (for the stock air intake system) fit onto either of these?

Because the 94-97 is only long enough to reach from the filter to the MAF sensor. Your 93 does not have an MAF sensor, so you need a filler piece for the gap.

My Callaway was a duplicate of the Moroso, and came with a K&N.

93's don't have a MAF sensor.

94-97's do... hense their CAI's are ~ 4" shorter (the maf fits on the end of the CAI, and before the intake elbow/bellows).

You could get a 94-97 CAI, a silcone sleeve, and pipe to connect the two I suppose... but it's easier just getting a 93 version instead.

No. The K&N stock replacement filter is a rectangular filter that fits in the stock air box. The new CAI's will come with a large conical filter instead (my Lingenfelter CAI had a K&N filter, but their are others and they're mostly all the same).

Sorry, I meant that filter.

So you're just looking for a longer CAI that puts the filter outside the engine bay?

I think my K&N on the Lingenfelter is larger than that one in your picture, but it's close. Either would work I guess, but the Moroso CAI should come with one.

That's not a cold air intake on there, just stock tubing with the air box removed (or so I've been told in other threads). I'm buying the Moroso used without a filter, and seeing if I could just put that K&N Filter on the Moroso Intake.

Also, what makes the Moroso intake any different from the stock tubing? They look pretty similar.

I find that's spitting hairs... but I can see the point, the air technically isn't in the "nose cone" just yet... though I'm pretty sure it would take little to seal it off from the rest of the engine bay like mustang CAI's do.

as long as the filter diameter is close enough you'll be fine. Couldn't tell ya off hand what the Moroso bottom diameter is though.

Most CAI's will take the same route, but try to use a larger pipe or more smoothed path... and they end at the frame/plate below the filter in your picture (then the filter stands upright UNDERNEATH the frame and uses it as a block-off plate (like I discussed above), just to limit hot air from the engine bay from entering (there are vents to the outside of the car at the bottom of this "chamber").

Is there enough of a difference to make it worth it?

I'm getting a Moroso Cold Air Intake, without the filter for $40 shipped plus an air foil for free, so either way I think I'm going to pick that up.

Thumbs up

For $40 shipped, along with a free air foil I'd go for it. Good deal.

If you were about to pay $200 thought I'd tell ya to give your head a shake and buy some plastic sheet and foam to make a block off plate instead (like the mustangs and trucks do).

I have the Moroso on my '93Z. It's the second one I've had on an f-body and for $40 w/an air foil, you can't really beat that. The filter style is oval and when you get this CAI, you will see that you will likely be able to take that in to a local auto parts store and purchase a k&n that will fit just fine on that piece of pipe. If it doesn't come with the metal plate that the CAI kit comes with, no worries, as you could easily fabricate something to "block" that lower recessed area to keep cooler air on the filter.

That is the Moroso, it doesn't seem any longer than what I have.

That one is for 94-97 with the MAF. The 93 version has a piece of plastic that extends further to make up the difference of the MAF.

Get your filler piece, fab up the filter, and done.

P.S. $40 shipped...nice!
