Oil pump drive gear plastic broken.. and wear pattern. Opinions?

While I had the car down anyways I pulled the intake to check the oil pump gear.

The plastic part is cracked again.. this is a brand new unit with 2k miles torqued to factory spec. WTF is up?

Thoughts on the wear pattern?

Keep in mind I'm running an HV pump, 2k miles old just like the drive gear and the rest of the engine.

My machinist has made these work on LT1 intakes.

I have one but on a single plane intake

That high vol pump is probly killing it......

Ugh.. this is such a simple setup why does everything have to be so complicated?

I don't have any contacts with local machinists around here that would give LT1 stuff the time of day.

Wear pattern look OK though?

nah just plain ole cast core...

kinda annoyed really that it wasn't billet, I didn't know better at the time.

As long as it looks aight though.

I know MORE performance used to sell a "cap" that would go over the plastic area up top, that would fix the problem.

I did it to proper spec homey (unlike the rockers :P)

Seriously though!

Should I just back off a few ft/lbs from spec and use red loctite?

I don't even know what spec is on that. I just choke up on a socket wrench all the way and tighten. Loc-tite isn't a bad idea.

It's only 13 ft/lbs!

I torque everything to spec for the most part, including that.

13 ft/lbs ain't ****

Javier, I just noticed the same problem with my oil pump drive. I have the intake off for a single plane conversion, and noticed that mine is cracked in the same place as yours. I will be using a Mallory or MSD oil plug hole when I install the single plane. As far as the guys still running a factory intake, I think someone needs to come out with a billet "cap" again like More Performance used to offer.

I have the dummy distributor on my Super Vic.....BUT, I have a buddy that is a machinist, he made an aluminum deal that slid over that piece, cradled the sides and had a bolt hole where that stock one does.It spread the load and stopped it from getting out of the hole if it DID break.

Make SURE that the plastic deal is bottomed out on the lifter valley before you tighten it down.

Get a machinist to make you one of those deals, I cannot believe no company is making anything like this for these cars.

Mine cracked too, and I used a torque wrench.
