Crank pulley wobble
Crank pulley wobble
How much crank wobble do you guys normal see. I am more concerned about wobble due to the rubber ring. I installed a new balancer and when i did install it i dident remember seeing any wobble, but now maybe 35 miles later I turned the car on and I see a little wobble. The belt is also making a squeak that gets lighter when the engine is warm, but still remains. Now i haven’t had an opportunity to check the torque on the bolts yet (there is allot of snow out side right now) but I am confident that they are tight. It looked like there is maybe half a mm of wobble or so. I will be checking the torque tomorrow. I first noticed this because of the squeaking belt. The belt did not sqeek b4 I changed the pulley. I changed the pulley because the stock one spun out. I am not sure if the squeak is because of the new pulley or because of a week tentioner. How much wobble is ok??? and do you think the tensioner or the pulley is the cause of the squeak.
The pulley is the powerforce 80030. Yea I know dont hate im poor lol.

I don't know how much wobble is acceptable, but 1/2 mm would be enough to indicate a serious problem if it's caused by the entire hub wobbling on the crank. Loose, or bent crank. If only the pulley, and nothing's loose, I suppose it means the pulley has started to separate. Don't let it go. Hopefully you find it's only loose at the pulley bolts or crank bolt.
Are you sure it pulled on all the way? Mine was really tight, and the only way I could get it on all the way was by getting it good and hot in the oven first. If it's not on all the way, the crank bolt would tend to loosen more easily. You can probe inside the crank bolt hole with a thin/stiff wire 'L' (like piano wire) to determine if there is a gap between the end of the crank and the back face of the pulley center. Mine had enough gap after cold install to easily be detected that way. There should be no gap.

I looked at the car today and the pulley is not wobbling. Thank god again for fixing something over night lol. But my belt is squealing for some reason. It is a new belt. When i pore water on the belt it stops squealing for a moment. How can I tell if its the belt or the tentioner that needs to be replaced?
I had the same problem with my belt squeaking/chirping. After spending a lot of time wondering if the idler pulley was bad or the alternator or steering pump I finally found a bulletin somewhere saying the problem was usually caused by a dirty belt, pulley, or both.. I had tried a new belt and it started squeaking after a little while. I removed the belt again and used brake cleaner to clean all the pulleys, including the tensioner and crank pulley. I cleaned them carefully with the whole can of cleaner. I put the new belt back on, and haven't heard that squeaking anymore. It's been about 5 months now and its still gone.
Give it a try. It can't hurt and may solve your problem. Good Luck!!
