Pulled mine from top with trans, intake, wp & damper all removed, and a load leveler bolted to front/rear of block, not heads. Headers put on while engien hangine in bay. Kind of tough to reach with front fascia on, but doable.

Yes - you absolutely can take them out from the top. It is done all the time

However - it is easier to do them from the bottom. But I took mine out from the top due to the fact that I didnt have a lift

I took mine out from the top. We had to take the hood off, remove the a/c condensor, radiator, tranny, and intake. I think we also removed all of the accessories because they were easy to get off.

i took the hood, radiator,ac,condensor, and pulled motor and tranny out the top together. i also pulled the intake off as well. but i was using a forklift to pull the motor out, wasn't too bad.

If you plan to roll the car out of the way and put it in storage while you rebuild the engine, its a lot easier with 4 wheels on the car. And, no, you do not have to have the Happy Hooker.

Ive never pulled an lt1 out from the bottom. I just found it easy to do it from the top. If your pulling the motor out with the tranny, it helps if you attach the chain more on the front of the motor. That way the tranny will slant as will the back of the motor and will give you a bit more clearance on the shroud. Just pull the motor up a bit, pull the motor forward, pull motor up more, pull motor forward. She might snag up a few things but it should come out relatively easy. We did it so many times that eventually we got to the point that we could pull the motor out with all the accessories still in tact, with the tranny in about 2 hours.

I duno, once you get it out the bottom you just have to unbolt the engine mounts pull it off the K-member the put back in 7 bolts and its a roller.

Even without a lift i think out the bottom is the most effciant way.

Agreed.. this IMO would be alot easier if you need a roller.

I've always done it from the bottom with this car.
It's just so much easier that way IMHO (having done it both ways in the past)
Granted, I rarely need to roll it around engineless.

When removing the engine from the bottom, how does the car clearance the motor and such without the use of a lift? you mean to tell me once things are loose a simple floor jack will be able to lift the car up high enough to just roll the engine out?
Seeing as how i dont have a lift, i would pull my engine from the top, but if it can be done from the bottom w/out a lift, that seems like the eaaaaasiest way.

I'm in the process of taking mine out the bottom as we speak. Using the hoist to raise the car high enough.
