camaro idling rough and dying

my question is for anyone to answer who thinks they can diagnose this problem. my 97 camaro z28 has been idling rough as of late. i was leaving wrk one day and the car had been running fine since i got it, december 2004, then when i was leaving i started it and it died almost instantly. i tried again and same result. so i towed it to the gm dealer across the street from where i work. they told me it was the mass air flow sensor, pcv valve, and throttle pos. sensor. estimate was over 1000 dollars. i did the repairs my self and still same result although now it runs but idles rough but when u drive it runs fine until u stop or idle down. any suggestions, my next thought would be fuel pump or filter. any thoughts are appreciated. thanks

befoer you spend over a hundred bucks on a new pump and 10 bucks on a filter, check the fuel pressure at the rail. also check to see if the regulator works or not.

i'd check for a cracked boot on the elbow where it meets the throttle body...some idiots dont put it on right and when they cinch down the tie it cuts the boot...bad for the MAF. that could be your problem by itself.

i need to know recent maintenance, if any...plugs wires filters, whatever...

I have a similar problem. When I stop or idle it runs rough and the oil, tac, and battery gauges drop and then bounce up quickly. I through my code reader on the computer and came up with nothing. Very frustrating!!

well me being the idiot i'am, lol. i let gm diagnose it. they told me a tps, MAF sensor, and pcv valve would correct this problem. i bought the parts and had my uncle who is a gm mechanic do the wrk(save on labor, just a case of beer). he said all shouldnt go bad at once. replaced, still same problem. he ran i diagnostic check and came up with nothing. no cracked boot, good fuel press. and replaced fuel filter, not bad but couldnt hurt. as of yesterday i purchased a aftermarket warranty, only $100 deductible. so i will let them mess with, glad i got the bumper to bumper, expensive but worth it none the less. no recent maintenance other than those i have described. uncle has done all tune-ups, i do all oil changes. in process of getting lift for pole barn. let me know if u have nemore ideas.

do you have a big cam in it? lol j/k maybe it could be the intake air control sensor or even some clogged fuel injectors? how many miles do you have on it?

i had a similar problem, the optispark harness in my 1996 went bad and would do this. It did it most often when the car was warmed up, but as soon as it got hot, it died dead as could be. Started back up, died right off. It's apparantly a common problem with the LT1's. Even tho my harness looked flawless and nothing appeared wrong, when i jiggled it, the engine would surge or want to cut off. So i replaced the harness and BANG! no more shut offs. BTW, it didnt throw any codes out when it happened either. I hope this link will help you out if you diagnose a wire harness. Good luck!.
